Job description

We place a high emphasis on creating a nurturing and stimulating environment and are seeking to employ a teaching assistant to work in our reception classroom, supporting the children to achieve the best outcomes in all areas of learning and development. Working alongside our dedicated team of highly skilled practitioners, you would be delivering the Early Years Foundation Stage across our Little Vines Reception and Kindergarten Class. Teaching Assistants must be at least NVQ Level 3 trained or equivalent.

Hours of work: Monday to Friday from 8am to 4pm.

Working Pattern: Term time only which includes 6 INSET days per year.

Rate of Pay: Equates to £11.50 per hour. Term-time only - £18,216 per annum / £1,518 per

month including holiday pay. FTE - £23,920.

Job Purpose

· To support all children as directed by the class teacher. This may include those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and those who have English as an Additional Language (EAL);

· To support all children in achieving good outcomes in the EYFS framework;

· To provide support for individuals or groups of children inside and outside the classroom to enable them to participate fully in activities;

· To listen to children read, read to them or tell stories as required;

· To accompany educational day visits;

· To liaise with the class teacher regarding the planning and preparation of lessons;

· To deliver phonics to a small group of children (Read Write Inc experience would be preferable) but in-house training will be available.

· To run or support one club a week from 3.30-4.15pm.

· To maintain good order and discipline amongst pupils, safeguarding their health and safety at work and play during break-times and lunchtimes

· To support children with emotional or behavioural problems and help develop their social skills;

Everyday Responsibilities

· To ensure the classroom is tidy and conducive to children’s learning;

· To help prepare and present displays of children’s work;

· Assist teaching staff in administration tasks that support teaching;

· To change books and update daily reading diaries;

· Set up equipment and prepare materials ready for lessons;

· Manage reading materials for the children;

· Play an active part in assessing the children and liaising with the class teacher, using the assessment platforms currently adopted by the school;

· To build a good rapport with parents in line with our open-door policy;

Professional Requirements, Standards and Quality Assurance

· Attend and contribute purposefully to the life of the school through effective participation in TA meetings and departmental meetings at INSET;

· Be proactive in matters relating to health and safety;

· Behave and dress in an appropriately professional manner and set a good example through personal presentation and personal and professional conduct;

· Have a positive outlook and the ability to work as part of a team;

· Operate at all times within the stated policies and practices of the school;

· Regularly attend Continuous Professional Development (CPD) sessions, taking responsibility for their own professional development and duties in relation to school policies and practices;

· Partake in yearly appraisal;

· Undertake duties as timetabled on a rota during the school day, including the lunchtime meals and playtime duties;

· In addition, carry out other duties as reasonably required by the Head of Pre-Prep or Head;

· Minimum of level 3 qualifications in Early Years.
