The Scottish Transactional Real Estate Team
The Real Estate Division is one of AG's largest, comprising a team in excess of 200. Within Scotland the Transactional Real Estate team is split between the Edinburgh and Glasgow Offices (the largest presence being in Edinburgh). The team currently comprises ten partners and over 30 other fee earners. The team have a fantastic client base and an exceptional level of quality work relating to transactions right across the UK. The team's work is split approximately 50:50 between English and Scottish Real Estate transactions.
Culturally the team is incredibly supportive, motivated and down to earth and works closely together to provide the best service possible to our clients. The partners are all heavily involved in the work delivery, and you will find that you will be supported from partner level down with your work. There is a genuine collective attitude which runs throughout the team.
What Does This Role Entail?
- Market leading deals: You can expect to work on a variety of real estate work including landlord and tenant, asset management, acquisitions and disposals and working as a member of some of the firm's principal client account teams. The Edinburgh team have been advised on the following:
- Acted in the complex structuring, financing and acquisition of part of the former Sick Kids hospital, Edinburgh, one of Edinburgh's most prominent development opportunities with an end value of circa £65m
- Acted in the acquisition of two cross border retail park portfolios consisting of 9 and 6 retail parks respectively for the same American investor at a cumulative value in excess of £290m
- Acted on the original acquisition, development, funding and then sale and leaseback of 12 care homes in a cross border deal worth in excess of £200m
- Top quality Real Estate mandates: the team compete with market leading Real Estate teams when pitching for the work you will be carrying out and negotiating against these firms on the transactions you work on.
- Working in a division that is strategically important to AG: As one of the firm's key areas of expertise, Real Estate is at the heart of Addleshaw Goddard. The division acts for clients such as British Land, Columbia Threadneedle, Aviva, Asda, BT and well as numerous developers, occupiers and private equity investors. We really do have a real estate client list which most law firms would swoon over.
This is a high performing, cohesive and busy team with excellent prospects for career development. We have a strong reputation for providing lawyers with early levels of responsibility within a supportive and stretching environment. Where Will You Work?
You will be based in the Edinburgh office. The wider Real Estate team are based across all of our UK offices (excluding Aberdeen). We operate a flexible, hybrid working system comprising a blend of working in the office and working from home, and we expect that that this will continue for the foreseeable future. That said, without any need for persuasion, we have seen our team want to be in the office more and more and we have a fantastic office culture which we believe hugely assists with many aspects of work, not least learning and development.
Who will you be?
You will be an experienced Scottish or dual qualified Associate (3 - 6 PQE) with demonstrated experience of commercial Real Estate matters, seeking a new challenge within the Transactional Real Estate space.
You will have excellent communication skills, a good understanding of real estate law and a willingness to learn and develop commercial awareness. Someone with good social skills, lots of energy, plenty of drive and enthusiasm will allow us to help us to provide an excellent client service. In addition to this you should be able to demonstrate you are able to work as part of a team in a fast-paced, challenging environment, where you will be required to meet tight deadlines.
Fundamentally, you need enthusiasm, resilience and ambition. That is, the ambition to improve yourself with the best possible work, making the most of the opportunities you will be given, whilst still having time to enjoy life outside work. You should be comfortable with the variety of work on offer, willing to embrace it and not be daunted.
