Job description
Assistant Signalling Design Manager / Design Coordinator, is required to work with the Signalling Design Manager / Signalling CRE.
The position is on a contract basis and is based mainly at home, with very occasional meetings in the Midlands. The work is outside of IR35. The work will be initially for six months.
The work is for a turnkey signalling supplier who develops, designs, installs and commissions signalling alterations and depot control systems. The role reports to the company Signalling Design Manager/CRE and is to provide technical support to the Signalling Design Manager/CRE, to organise, lead, track and manage design production, design programmes, integration of design with the overall engineering programme, ensure compliance with standards, scopes and processes.
You must have a background in signalling design and railway engineering. You must be able to interpret and understand, interpret and assess signalling design products and be familiar and experienced with signalling design process and interfacing processes and designs.
You must be able to demonstrate detailed knowledge and experience of railway signalling design and development as well as interfacing operations, track and interfacing systems. You will be required to:
- Co-lead and manage the Signalling Design Team
- Coordinate and manage design for signalling products, including scheme plans, control tables, circuits and data
- Produce scope, remits, trackers and design plans
- Attend, organise and coordinate IDCs and design meetings
- Plan, track, organise and coordinate integration of design plans and engineering programmes
You will be familiar with all interfacing mainline railway systems and will have familiarity with Network Rail assurance processes. You will have the ability to review and assure technical work scopes and specifications.
You will be able to demonstrate that you are able to plan, organise, manage and implement complex signalling design and implementation programmes.
Essential Requirements
Experience of working as a signalling designer
Proven experience of mainline railway technology and processes within the mainline railway infrastructure
Knowledge and experience of developing and designing mainline signalling systems
Experience and knowledge of the Network Rail assurance process
Robust understanding of Network Rail Line Standards
Knowledge of interfacing railway disciplines
Desirable Requirements
Experience of working as a signalling CRE or Design Manager
Previous work as a PE or SPE or CRE or DPE
IRSE licence – Engineering Manager – Design
IRSE licence – Signalling Designer or Principles Designer
