About the role
We are currently recruiting a R&D Technician to join QinetiQ Target Systems (QTS) within our Engineering Team. QTS is a wholly owned subsidiary of QinetiQ Group PLC specialising in the design and manufacture of a range of state of the art Unmanned Aerial and Surface Target systems including the world leading Banshee target.
QTS targets are used to enable realistic weapons test and evaluation and operator training in over 40 countries worldwide with QTS providing a complete managed service in over 15 of these countries.
What will I be doing?
Reporting to the Engineering Support Manager, you will work in partnership with the production engineering team to develop, document, assemble and validate test fixtures and jigs, to deliver production ready solutions and assure the quality and consistency of our products during manufacture.
Duties will include:
Selecting & ordering electrical, electronic & mechanical components for test fixtures & manufacturing jigs.
Building electrical/electronic circuits from schematic diagrams.
Wiring of cables, harnesses and fixtures to a high standard.
Testing the cables & circuits that have been built, manually and via dedicated test tools.
Mechanical assembly of enclosures & jigs, using hand tools & small machine tools.
Maintaining & repairing existing test fixtures & jigs as required.
Documenting all work using MS office & where applicable CAD or other applications.
Design and manage the production of 3D printed jigs, fixtures and other parts (training will be provided).
What do I need?
You will have a r ecognised qualification in electrical or electronic engineering, including successful apprenticeship completion and at least 1 year’s hands on experience within an R&D environment, or 2 years’ experience within a technical production environment.
We also ask that you:
have the ability to understand and interpret blueprints and engineering specifications and drawings.
have the ability to identify and resolve technical, operational and organisational problems.
have excellent organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
are IT literate, including Microsoft Windows and MS Office software.
have a willingness to work on partially completed projects as they are developed.
are able to p erform testing of electronic assemblies to diagnose production faults and provide feedback to production or QA as necessary
