Basic Purpose and Objectives:

• Oversee quality lab inspection and test equipment. Manages Quality Technicians, PPAP Coordinator and calibration/verification of inspection gauges and test equipment to meet schedule. Tests and inspects products at various stages of production process when required. Performs basic metallurgical tests to verify conformity to customer specifications. Creates and maintains lab documentation to meet ISO/IEC 17025 requirements.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

• Daily management of the Quality Technicians and PPAP Coordinator, as well as performs annual performance appraisals and sets annual objectives for direct reports
• Ordering lab chemicals & Supplies
• Calibration / verification / identification of floor inspection and test equipment
• Schedule out-sourced calibration services
• Metallurgical testing - customer requirements, development of raw material inspection, proper grain flow
• APQP - Blue book creation, gauging needs, material testing validation
• Lab equipment preventive maintenance
• Performing process and product audits
• Creating and maintaining procedures and work instructions for the lab and floor inspection activities
• IATF internal auditing
• Defect analysis for customer and internal issues (visual, dimensional, performance)
• Maintain LPA process
• MSA studies
• Vision Lab programming, overseeing daily activities, fixture replacement, PM, calibration
• Development of chemical safety protocols
• Other duties as needed within the Quality department

Work Environment:

• The Quality Supervisor / Lab Engineer's priority is to maintain the lab and support production and quality. Daily management of the Quality Technicians and PPAP Coordinator. Time is spent on the production floor, majority is in the lab performing tests, such as hardness, plating thickness, material flow, dimensional and performance. Working with chemicals in the lab and performing gauge calibration.

Physical Demands:

• 50% of the time is walking and/or standing. 50% of the time is sitting. There is very little demand for lifting, pushing, or pulling of heavy objects (more than 20 lbs.) Attention to detail is necessary.

Education and Experience Required:

• Preferred Engineering or Metallurgical Engineering degree
• Ability to use and read hand gauges, such as Micrometer, caliper, ring gauges and plug gauges
• Able to use Optical Comparator (shadow graph)
• Able to use Hardness Test Equipment
• Understanding of ISO/IEC 17025 & IATF 16949 requirements
• Basic computer skills; email, Microsoft Office; Word, Excel
• Ability to read part drawings
• ISO / IATF 16949 internal audit certificate
• Understanding of basic metallurgical testing
• Ability to participate in Teamwork
• Chemical Safety Awareness

Position Type / Expectations of Working Hours:

• Salary position
• Monday through Friday, minimum 8 working hours daily with occasional Saturday when necessary
