Job description
Directorate: Corporate Resources
Hours: Casual (Cover for annual leave and sickness absence of permanent courier between 11am to 3pm, Monday to Friday)
Contract Type: Relief
Location: Council House
The Council has an internal Courier Service based within our Document Management Centre team that delivers and collects mail daily from all our Council offices located within the boundary of the City. The mail can include letters and parcels, as well as small pieces of equipment and office furniture.
We are looking for a flexible and well organised person that can cover these rounds when the permanent Courier is absent, which can sometimes be at very short notice. The Courier is expected to liaise with customers face to face, via email and over the phone so good communication and customer service skills are needed, as well as some basic knowledge of IT including Microsoft Outlook.
If you feel this describes you, then in return we can offer you:
- A supportive working environment within a dynamic and innovative team
- A Council uniform
- Access to a Council vehicle to carry out your role
- Excellent working conditions and employee benefits
The requirements:
- A clean driving licence
- Previous experience of a similar role
- A good knowledge of the road system in and around Derby
- Good IT skills to answer emails and queries from our customers and be able to take meter readings from equipment for which training will be provided
- Excellent customer service skills
- A basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance.
This role can be physical and demanding and includes lifting and carrying weights up to 12 kg and walking a distance of up to 3.5 miles a day.
All employees will normally be appointed to the minimum of the grade for the job. For reasons connected with a particular need of the Council it may be appropriate, subject to approval, to appoint to a higher point in the pay grade.
Before you complete your application form please read our guidance on filling in your application form.
Quick Tip! Remember to align your personal statement to the Essential Criteria in the Person Specification
Please be aware that where there are staff within the organisation who are 'at risk' of redundancy, requirements to redeploy to another suitable role will apply and take priority.
The closing date for this vacancy is 17 September 2023 at midnight. Any applications received after the closing date will not be accepted.
Interviews will be held in person.
