Quality Assurance Manager - Defence & Aerospace
Salary: up to £65k per year + benefits
Location: North London
Hours: Monday to Friday

The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity for an established Quality Assurance Manager, experienced in implementing and maintaining quality system frameworks, quality assurance & control.
The successful candidate with have a proven track record of quality systems management, delivering results, with a ‘get-stuck-in’ hands-on style.
You will have a firm but pragmatic approach with a strong voice to ensure quality is proactively influenced, driven, and owned at point of source.
Furthermore, you will have a dynamic and diverse ability, with an engaging and influential personality, and a passion to get the job done.
Key responsibilities
· Develop and maintain the Quality Management System (QMS) ensuring adherence with local policies throughout the business
· Improve quality culture and performance
· Develop and maintain the Configuration Management process
· Ensure customer satisfaction and operational consistency is achieved by promoting a culture of continuous improvement throughout the business
· Ensure that the QMS is aligned with the strategic direction of the company
· Enthusiastic and proactive hands-on approach that fully delivers the quality objectives, goals, and deliverables
· Develop and maintain the QMS framework, that covers all business units within our client’s operation (UK, NL, SG)
· Develop and maintain the QMS manual, quality policy, mission/vision/scope statements
· Hold regular quality management system reviews
· Ensure company processes are effective to meet customer needs, regulatory requirements, and worked in accordance
· Ensure compliance and on-going certification to ISO 9001, and scope expansion to AS 9100
· Ensure compliance and on-going certification to TUV SUD Marine Equipment Directive (MED) Module D
· Work closely with the HSE Manager, to support the integrated QMS and EMS audit programme
· Manage & lead the QMS audit programme, including internal, supplier, hosting external third-party audits, and nonconformity management
· Develop and maintain the Configuration Management processes, procedures, and daily ERP configuration control
· Produce Quality & Configuration plans and submissions on quality management in support of new contract proposals
· Facilitate root cause investigations and driving mitigating corrective actions
· Collaborate with external vendors and suppliers to ensure that they meet quality standards, including nonconformity management
· Ensure effective in-bound and out-bound inspection, to ensure smooth production flow and customer satisfaction
· Ensure an effective supplier part defect process, and nonconformity management
· Ensure effective design proving and gate reviews to maximise product reliability, meet customer needs, and regulatory requirements
· Facilitate the customer complaints process, ensuring permanent corrective actions and continuous improvement
· Facilitate the annual ‘post event’ customer satisfaction survey and work with Sales and Customer Service to establish new local methods of capturing ‘real time’ customer feedback and reporting
· Leadership & guidance to continually develop quality culture and performance throughout the company
· Drive improvements in quality performance to enhance the customer experience and reduce the cost of poor quality
· Provide regular quality awareness training and inductions
· Maintain QMS tools (Q-Pulse) and memberships (Hellios JOSCAR), as appropriate
· Liaison with internal personnel, certification bodies, customers, suppliers, and collaborators at a senior level
· Close working with the companies international quality team
· Regularly report KPI performance, successes, missed opportunities, improvement activities, etc, to key stakeholders
· Travel within the UK and overseas, as required
· Any other tasks associated with this role.
Personal Requirements
· Proven experience as a Quality Manager with at least 5 years’ experience in a similar role within the defence, aerospace or automotive industry
· Holds an appropriate recognised quality qualification and a demonstrable track record of achievements in improving quality performance
· Engineering background with a qualification in electromechanical engineering ideally of degree level
· Strong research, analytical skills, and attention to detail
· Excellent interpersonal skills, particularly focused in facilitating organisational development and coaching
· Excellent communications skills and vocabulary, both written and verbal
· Understanding of business management principles
· Computer literacy and working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, Power Point, Visio, Power BI, etc
· Qualified ISO lead auditor ISO 9001:2015 (AS 9100 is beneficial)
· Knowledge of AQAP 2110, 2310, and AS 9100
· Understanding of product quality assurance processes such as APQP, PPAP and FAI
· Knowledge of Marine Equipment Directive (MED) and ISO 14001 is beneficial.
