In August 2023 Indaver UK begins operations at our NESS project in Aberdeen, a new state-of the-art facility producing renewable energy for export to the national grid as well as heating for the local district to support future generations to come.
As part of this much anticipated launch we are seeking an experienced and diligent QESH Manager to manage the implementation and monitoring of Quality, Environment and, Health and Safety systems to which support and enhance the operation and maintenance of the facility to deliver no harm to people, the environment or the facility.
Ideally you will have an in-depth knowledge of Integrated Management Systems gained at a senior level within the energy or continuous process industries and you will be used to dealing with local and national regulatory and certification bodies. As part of the facility Management Team, you will be instrumental in driving a safety and compliance first culture across the organisation, and will be an advocate of best practice sharing across the Indaver Group.

The QESH Manager (Quality, Environment, Health & Safety) is responsible for the development, implementation and monitoring of all Quality, Environment, Health and Safety systems, processes, procedures and associated requirements to operate and maintain the NESS facility in a safe, efficient and compliant manner in accordance with Group and Regional strategies and all applicable ISO standards, regulations and laws.
The QESH Manager will act as the key focal point on all matters relating to license/permit compliance and will manage all key interfaces with SEPA (Scottish Environmental Protection Agency) and the HSE (Health and Safety Executive).
Role & Responsibilities
- Provide technical and visual leadership in all safety related matters and areas of operation within the facility and interfaces with external stakeholders.
- Identification, design, implementation and management of Process and Operational Safety systems to ensure that all works undertaken within the facility are executed in accordance with Indaver’s Integrated Safe System of Work and the protection of people, the environment and the plant are at the core of every activity.
- Liaison with the Grid Operator/District Heating Operator on all matters concerning the safe execution of work on the interconnected parts of the respective systems.
- Act as the key interface and relationship owner with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) on all matter relating to legislative requirements and reporting.
- Provide environmental leadership and guidance within the facility to ensure that it is operated and maintained using best Indaver/Industry practices in compliance with all relevant environmental, legal, licence and internal requirements/norms.
- Act as the key interface and relationship owner with the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) on all matter relating to legislative requirements and reporting.
- Care, Connect and Coach all members of staff, and anyone else providing services within the facility to ensure that all risks are identified, controlled and/or suitably mitigated to ensure that all work is executed in a safe and compliant manner within the facility.
- Support facility production and maintenance activities through the provision of expert advice in relation to risk identification and management.

- Provide operational guidance in relation to license compliance and reporting issues.
- Identification of operational improvement projects that simplify, standardise or improve the safety and/or compliance of the facility
- Identify all system and /or procedural changes flowing from the project and manage those changes in compliance with Indaver’s Management of Change process and procedures.
- Design and ownership of the NESS Integrated Management System (IMS) in accordance with the applicable ISO Standards to ensure that:
- products & service meet and/or exceed customer and regulatory requirement; and
- environmental objectives and compliance are delivered; and
- the working environment is a safe, healthy and energising place to deliver exceptional service.
- Act as the key interface and relationship owner with the relevant Accreditation Agencies (ISO, etc.) on all matters relating to accreditation.
- Attention to details and doing things right, first time, every time.
- Participate in the development, control and optimisation of operational budgets in conjunction with the Plant & General Manager.nrelenting focus on continuous improvement of the facility and the people who work within it.
Qualifications & Experience
- Ideally degree educated in a related science or engineering area of study but lower qualifications along with significant applicable experience will be acceptable in lieu of a degree.
- NEBOSH General Certificate as a minimal.
- Proven QESH management experience within the energy or continuous process industries.
- Proven track record of dealing with regulatory and certification authorities.
- Minimum 10 years of relevant experience.
- Minimum 2 years people management experience.
- In-depth and systematic knowledge of Integrated Management Systems and respective certification bodies.
- Waste sector permitting and licensing knowledge and experience is desirable but not essential.
- Must be eligible to work in the UK. No visa sponsorship will be offered for this position.
