EQUANS are looking for a Mechanical Technician (Autoclaves) for our QEH contracts in Birmingham. This role would be a permanent full-time role working 37.5 hours per week. On offer is a competitive salary and benefits package.
General Overview:
To carry out weekly testing of the autoclaves, including first line maintenance and breakdown attendance, as part of the day shift mechanical team. Undertake maintenance and repairs of all mechanical plant, services and physical assets including testing and routine fault finding outside of testing the autoclaves.
- Working on a day shift from 0800 – 1600, Mon – Fri as part of a Mechanical day team.
- The responsibilities will mainly be at the Acute Hospital, but may also include duties at the Mental Health unit and Retained Estate
- To undertake any reasonable duties to maintain all services to the NHS Trust(s)
- To carry out all works in compliance with Equans KPI’s
This role has an important position within the workflow process; the person will be actively involved in developing detailed knowledge, and the maintenance of the core plant and equipment on the QEH Estate.
Complexity:
- Undertake weekly testing and first line breakdown and maintenance attendance to the autoclaves.
- Undertake PPM and breakdown maintenance on all mechanical plant outside of autoclave testing.
- Interpret and work from all instructions, drawings, and specifications appropriate to his/her own trade, without supervision.
- Set up New Work appropriate to his/her own trade using relevant tools, equipment and machinery, without supervision, as appropriate to his/her grade.
- To maintain workshops and working environment in a clean, tidy and safe condition.
- After appropriate training, work off tower scaffolding, MEWP’s, ladders, and step ladders and within confined spaces.
- To carry out unsupervised maintenance and repairs and report any defects or unusual circumstances to the Charge Hand/Supervisor.
- Requirement to learn new techniques with training as necessary.
- To understand the general working of the Equans Estate, so that work can be carried out in the most efficient manner, pro-active in developing new ways of working.
- To be contacted by radio and/or PDA to receive instructions. This can involve frequent disruption to work patterns.
- To be knowledgeable of and to work to the current regulations, codes of practice, Health & Safety regulations, and all safety rules both Equans and Statutory.
- Produce if necessary list of materials to carry out remedial repairs or alterations to current task.
- Ensure all PPM work is carried out effectively in compliance with maintenance instructions.
- To record information as required for the operation of Maximo or similar system.
- To participate in the Equans appraisal system.
- To understand the working of Mechanical systems within the Equans Estate.
- Diagnose and repair faults in engineering installation, plant and equipment. To deal with new situations as they arise and pass on knowledge to others. To inform immediate Charge Hand/Supervisors of any delays or difficulties encountered.
- To maintain and efficiently run plant and equipment as appropriate.
- To undertake any other duties as requested by Management, to comply with Equans contact and KPI’s.
- Staff will be employed on work appropriate to their core specialist skill. They will however progressively be suitably trained to acquire elements of extra skills with the intention of reaching levels of flexibility and competence to enable them to achieve and apply the ability where required to perform the above. Pass knowledge gained to others.
- Be flexible in work hours and shift moves if required.
- Work towards gaining CP duties in one or more disciplines/ Medical gas/pressure systems/water/ventilation.
- Porous load Sterilisers weekly test persons course (Desirable)
- City & Guilds (or equivalent) Mechanical qualifications.
- Understanding of AHU and FCU
- Previous experience of testing/working on autoclaves (Desirable)
