In this job, you’ll be responsible for the test automation approach and methodology for quality assurance of BT/EE platform solutions. You’ll provide technical leadership and strategic direction to automation or qa engineers, resolving the test project issues, and ensuring effective test process improvement feedback. You’ll be critical in ensuring that test architecture and test plans are up to date relative to changes in the Digital landscape. You’ll confidently lead and share knowledge with a team of engineers. You’ll be involved in planning and monitoring the execution of automation tests in CI/CD environment. You’ll define the automation first approach within development sprints, identify issues with the manual activities whilst using your own initiative to find the right solution for any faults found in dev, test and production. Excellent communication skills are required as you will be liaising with wider engineering team including operations and product teams. You will also be responsible for implementing latest technology, in line with our continuous integration and delivery goals. Working collaboratively across both QA and Engineering to achieve testability, maintainability and scalability of our software products, providing technical guidance and coaching throughout.
What you’ll be doing
  • Define the test automation driven QA approach and methodology for BT/EE platform solutions
  • Be Agile, Test Driven and a highly technical tester.
  • Steering the direction of the automation test framework
  • You will work directly with Technical Architects and define automation approach, write test plans but can still deliver hands on technically. Whether that be API testing or building test frameworks from scratch.
  • Analyse competitive products and technologies with appropriate suggestions to influence product / technology direction.
  • Collaborate with test and development engineers on application & testing architecture, to ensure that the approaches and technologies applied to the current implementation are sound and fit for purpose.
  • Coordinating the tasks within sprints and looking at ways to automate manual activities within software delivery process.
  • Design / architect and implement regular robust full build / deploy / test automation process across our digital platforms along with sub system integrations
  • Coordinating test automation activities within projects, including planning and delivering the test phases on time and within budget while meeting all quality objectives.
  • Understanding of programming principles and best practice (e.g. DRY, SOLID for creating re-usable code, best practice etc)
  • Own the end to end code quality and code performance KPI’s
  • Proactive monitoring of Production estate code.
The skills you'll need
  • Automation testing experience (Minimum 5 years)
  • Worked with Service Virtualisation of Enterprise level API driven front and backend systems
  • Expertise in testing methodologies, test techniques and agile QA practices.
  • Experience in defining and creating API mocking/stubbing.
  • Good communication skills of test status across engineering team and stakeholders
  • Knowledge of Java, JavaScript, React, Flutter, NodeJS, Spock, GEB, Selenium and mobile technologies
  • Expertise with automated testing tools (such as Applitools, Cypress.io, TestCafe, Selenium, Karma, Saucelabs / Browserstack)
  • Background in DevOps tooling for execution of automation tests such as Jenkins, GIT, PAAS, Monitoring / Log aggregation
  • Line Management of squads various QA team members
  • Experience of integrating test scripts into Continuous Integration Pipelines
  • Working knowledge of JIRA / Confluence
  • Understanding of complex Headless / Serverless front end testing requirements
  • Experience architecting and building test automation frameworks
  • Experience with cloud technology such as AWS, Azure etc.
  • Experience with BDD or TDD
  • TMMi experience or certification (desirable).
  • ISTQB (Advanced)
  • Experience working with offshore and onshore teams
  • Test Management experience across major IT projects & programmes.
  • Overall testing strategies and implementation experience
