Job description

The Bury Black Pudding Company are looking to recruit an experienced and organised Purchasing Manager to work alongside the departments purchasing administrator. The individual will run the department for this established and growing business in the FMCG sector and help to deliver the company’s mission: To be the leading brand in Black Pudding, to put this great Northern delicacy on the world map and to be one of the UK’s truly great food companies.

The successful candidate will be organised, used to negotiating and have a good eye for detail. You will be responsible for providing efficient management for the business. Previous experience in a manufacturing business would be an advantage and preference will be given to candidates from a FMCG / food background.

Main Duties:

· Day to day procurement of supplies on behalf of company to ensure continuity of the overall manufacturing process using the purchase order processing and stock control systems currently in place.

· Review the current procurement process and systems to identify and report on areas of weakness and provide suggestions for development to ensure continuous improvement.

· Create and maintain close working relationships with suppliers.

· Management of the purchasing administration team.

· Work with the Finance Manager and internal departments to ensure regularly purchased and high-value items are bought efficiently.

· Track, measure and analyse company expenditures, profitability and commercial activity.

· Monitor supplier performance to ensure timely deliveries of the correct items.

· Liaise with suppliers and manufacturers to overcome any product issue in the shortest possible time period and find alternative products and suppliers if required.

· Negotiating prices, lead times and stockholding.

· Carry out regular reviews to identify high-volume items where it may be possible to negotiate volume discounts.

· Ensure efficient use of stocks throughout each department and identify any issues.

· Plan & place purchase orders with suppliers, considering lead times, volumes needed and space required to accept them into the building.

· Oversee stock levels and chase overdue/ forward orders from suppliers making sure they arrive on time to ensure the business will fulfil its orders.

· Ensure invoice queries are raised and resolved with suppliers.

· Confirm orders have been received, ensuring that they correspond with the original orders placed and are of the quality standard expected.

· Ensure departments are provided with necessary information, such as accurate ETA dates.

· Maintain information on our purchasing and accounting software programmes.

· Assist with general enquiries from other departments within the business.

· Carry out other general administration duties and support as required.

· It is the duty of all employees to ensure that a safe working environment and safe working practices are maintained at all times.

Person Specification:

· Experience as a Purchasing Manager or equivalent required.

· CIPS, or similar, qualification preferred.

· Ability to prioritise workload, work under pressure and use own initiative.

· Strong attention to detail.

· Positive approach to problem solving.

· People management skills.

· Excellent communication skills at all levels for dealing with suppliers and colleagues.

· Strong IT skills including Excel, Word, Outlook, Sage Line 50

· Organised and confident with the ability to negotiate and meet deadlines.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: From £35,000.00 per year
