The Department of Surgery and Cancer at Imperial College London seeks to appoint a Centre Manager to play a critical role in the CRUK Convergence Science Centre in helping the Scientific Director and researchers deliver the Centre mission and research programme.
In particular, the post holder will lead on building a network of researchers, identifying funding opportunities for the Centre, and managing the Centre’s finances. The post holder will also be expected to have an operational understanding of the Centre’s research goals, and the corresponding work streams. They will work closely with the Centre Director to be responsible for managing and coordinating activities, ensuring that they are carried out smoothly with milestones achieved and reported on.
The role requires the post holder to handle a varied workload, having excellent attention to detail, and an understanding of scientific research collaborations. The postholder will need to have scientific understanding, project management and financial administration experience to ensure that Centre supported activities are delivered efficiently across the partners.
Applicants should demonstrate how they meet the essential criteria required of this post and hold a degree in a relevant subject (cancer biology, ideally with knowledge in engineering or physical sciences), have a detailed understanding of the current cancer research landscape.
Activities span discovery research, medical device and technology development, including for early detection, surgery and radiotherapy. You will play an important role in supporting collaborations between researchers not only in two distinct organisations, but also across disciplinary boundaries. To do so the postholder will need an understanding of the opportunity to apply engineering and the physical sciences approaches to address questions in cancer, and how to motivate and support researchers coming together from different disciplines. The postholder will have experience of managing partnerships, supporting the implementation of governance frameworks to ensure transparency and minimising administrative burdens for researchers.
