The Immunisation service works to deliver a school and community immunisation service that is consistent across the county and offers a comprehensive immunisation service to all children and young people educated, registered or resident in Kent and Medway

As a member of the Immunisation Team and part of the wider public health service, you will work collaboratively with Health Visitors, School Nurses, Looked After Children’s Nurses, Schools, Primary Care colleagues, to ensure a highly efficient, effective and safe service is provided.

You will support the delivery of childhood immunisation programmes across Kent and Medway. The work takes place in a variety of settings, including schools, clinics, and community venues to deliver the National Childhood Immunisation Programme and Childhood Flu Campaign.

With direction, support and guidance from the Locality Lead Nurse, you will work in your local community to improve vaccination uptake by:

  • Being aware of the profile of your local communities (e.g. deprived areas, non-English speaking, vaccine hesitancy, travelling families) and raise the profile of immunisations within these areas (open days, local council events, health days etc)
  • Ensuring digitally excluded families are supported to complete e-consent forms by arranging drop in sessions at schools and calling families who have not submitted a consent form
  • Schedule and deliver school assemblies to young people within targeted school settings.
  • Confidently deliver presentations to parents/carers, teachers and other agencies on vaccinations required in accordance with National immunisation programme.
