What you'll do

It’s an exciting time to join us as an Engineer. With our cloud-based transformation well underway, our engineers are using modern engineering practices to explore the full potential of the cloud. And as our focus moves from what goes on behind the scenes to what our customers can see, our engineers are reimagining tomorrow’s banking experience and developing innovative products and experiences for our customers, today.

This is where your fun begins as a Public Cloud DevOps Engineer. With our customers at the heart of your approach, we want you to work at the leading edge of technological transformation to explore new technologies, meddle with the status quo, and approach failure as a building block of innovation to solve complex issues rapidly and iteratively for our customers.

Day to day, we want you to:

  • Experiment with new technologies and test ideas to generate innovative solutions for our customers, utilising market insights
  • Collaborate with our customers, vendors, and other tech teams to build simple, available, and scalable solutions
  • Engineer public and private cloud products that are safe, secure, and sustainable
  • Utilise infrastructure as code (IaC) to develop, deploy, and scale cloud applications and products with greater speed, less risk, and reduced costs
  • Join technology communities of practice across the bank to share engineering best practice and experience
  • Maintain engineered products by responding to customer feedback, new feature requests, production issues, and customer help requests
  • Coach and mentor other engineers and encourage the use of automation to provide testing and a route to go-live for new products

The skills you’ll need

We’re a diverse team with broad skillsets, a passion for learning, and an unwavering customer focus. We’re looking for someone with great collaboration and stakeholder management skills and the ability to focus on and empathise with the customer.

You’ll have experience of contributing to roadmaps and strategies and the ability to clearly explain technical concepts to different audiences. You’ll also have astute attention to detail to ensure that security is considered from the outset of every solution. A professional public cloud certification would be beneficial.

Your technical skillset will ideally include:

  • Experience in AWS
  • Working knowledge of DevOps automation and tools like AWS, TeamCity, Terraform, IaC, Python, and GitLab
  • Software development or scripting skills
  • Practical experience of the SDLC and testing
  • A good understanding of Agile methodologies and toolsets such as Jira
  • Some knowledge across the infrastructure stack such as server, operating system, virtualisation, database, middleware, or network

If you need any adjustments to support your application, such as information in alternative formats or special requirements to access our buildings, or if you’re eligible under the Disability Confident Scheme please contact us and we’ll do everything we can to help.
