Torbay Hospital are recruiting for a full time Maternity Support Worker (MSW) & Training Facilitator to join our caring and committed workforce to assist midwives and doctors with instrumental deliveries andwork closely with the Education Lead midwife.
You will be supporting new members of staff through the orientation process, maintaining the MSW competency database and other relevant databases, supporting MSW’s to complete their competencies and providing support with training for all MSW’s under the guidance of the Education Lead Midwife.

- Work according to Trust standards and policies. The post holder will be responsible for assisting the MSW's to improve and maintain high standards of care,
- Work closely with the Education Lead midwife, supporting new members of staff through the orientation process, maintain and support the MSW's to complete competencies.
- Be involved in the booking and preparation of training rooms
- Support the Education Lead Midwife as directed
- To carry out additional tasks as delegated by the Registered Midwife and once appropriate training has been given and be able to complete all the relevant paperwork, and inform the midwife of findings: • Undertake venepuncture and cannulation,
- Process fetal scalp/ umbilical cord ph,
- Neonatal heel prick sampling/Neonatal blood spot screening
- Blood glucose monitoring in women and neonates
- Removal of urethral catheters
- Removal of epidural catheter
- Bladder scanning
- ECG recording
- Undertake wound observations and simple wound dressings
- Removal of peripheral cannulas
- Prepare (including cleaning) the clinical area.
- Management of blood spillage.
- Clean and make beds.
- Re-stock and reorder equipment.
- Sterilise feeding equipment.
- Prepare equipment such as ultrasound
