Public Access Officers London, England

Metropolitan Police
Full Time London, England 28511 - 30504 GBP ANNUAL Today
Job description

Job Title – Public access Officers

Salary – £28,511- £30,504 + £1,721 location allowance and an additional shift allowance which vary by location.

The Role

As a Public Access Officer, you’ll be at the forefront of our efforts to be the most trusted police service in the world. You’ll be serving London directly by dealing with enquiries at the front counter of your police station, supporting victims of crime and promoting local meetings to assist your local community.

It’s a varied role with many interesting aspects: one day you might be assisting a victim of crime; the next, you may be taking victim statements for minor crime reports or missing persons and aiming to achieve the best outcomes in the pursuit of justice. Ultimately, you’ll be helping both the public and our officers whenever you can from our front desk.

The Person

To be successful as a Public Access Officer, we’ll need you to build trust with your station’s local community. Full training will be provided and we don’t ask for any specific qualifications – we’ll need you to be open, friendly and comfortable with interacting with the public and assisting with their enquiries.

  • You’ll be a great communicator, able to express yourself well both in person and on paper.
  • You’ll have some experience of working with customers or the public from a previous role.
  • You’ll have a great attention to detail and be comfortable dealing with paper and computer-based admin.
  • You’ll be someone who’s keen to learn and expand their current skillset by attending our Emergency Life Support training and other Officer Safety courses.
  • You’ll be comfortable using police computer systems (full training will be provided).
  • You’ll act with integrity, honesty and responsibility and uphold what matters most to Londoners.

Physical fitness and Mobility requirements:

Given the nature of the role, all applicants must have the right level of physical fitness and mobility. We don’t expect you to be of Olympic athlete standard but will expect all of our Public Access Officers to successfully complete our mandatory training, which will include a two day Public and Personal Safety Foundation Course and two days of Emergency Life Support (ELS) training.

This does mean candidates must be fit and mobile enough to pass. Examples of what we need from you include:

  • A low intensity warm up that includes light jogging and side stepping.
  • Physical capability to perform CPR, place someone in the recovery position and break away if someone was to grab you. There will be an initial training course and there is a contractual obligation to pass this initial course but we’re a very supportive organisation and you will be given all the support you need to succeed.

Successful candidates will be required to work a shift pattern. The shift pattern will vary depending upon the place of work. Shift allowance will be paid, again the allowance will vary according to the hours you work. Shift allowance is paid in addition to basic salary and is typically between 12.5% - 20% of salary.
