Job description

The Therapy Services at Kemple View aim to provide bespoke and individualised treatment pathways for male patients with complex mental health, recovery needs and risk profiles. Therapy Services include Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy and education in both our Low Secure and Rehabilitation and recovery settings. Therapy services staff work together as part of identified Multi-Disciplinary Teams with our nursing and medical colleagues, using positive psychology approaches with patients that aim to motivate, engage, develop and practice skills to achieve life goals and promote long term change to progress through the identified care pathways.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an HCPC Registered Practitioner Psychologist to work full time in a large psychology team. The team consists of experienced qualified Psychologists, Trainee and Assistant Psychologists. Our Psychologists work alongside colleagues from Psychiatry, Nursing, Occupational Therapy and Social Work to provide high quality care.

The Therapy Services at Kemple View aim to provide bespoke and individualised treatment pathways for male forensic patients with complex mental health, recovery needs and risk profiles. The services include Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy and education for adult males detained in either our Low Secure or Recovery and Rehabilitation settings. Therapy services staff work together as part of identified Multi-Disciplinary Teams with our nursing and medical colleagues, using positive psychology approaches with patients that aim to motivate, engage, develop and practice skills to achieve life goals and promote long-term change to progress through the identified care pathways.

Psychological services at Kemple View provide specialist psychological interventions to meet the needs of complex and often challenging patients with a range of mental health presentations, for example Mental Illness, Personality Disorder, Learning Disabilities, Autism and neuro-cognitive deficits Working as an essential part of the Multi-Disciplinary team, this role will involve the development, delivery and evaluation of psychological treatment using a person centred approach to assist our patients in achieving their positive life goals. The role is varied, involving direct and indirect clinical work, MDT decision making, staff training and supervision, evaluation and development of key aspects of the service as part of an established and experienced team.

The successful individual will be an enthusiastic and motivated Practitioner Psychologist registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). Experience of working with service users with complex needs, ideally in a secure or locked setting and working with patients detained under the Mental Health Act (1983) is also advantageous although not essential.

We are looking for someone with a creative and compassionate approach, with an enthusiasm for improving the quality of life of our service users both whilst they are in our care and as they progress to less restrictive environments. The role will require enhanced organisational skills and the ability to work both independently, pro-actively and as a key member of departmental and clinical teams. There are good opportunities for training and development, research and the development of specialist interests and skills.

You will be involved in the provision of both assessment and treatment, including the use of structured risk assessment measures and one-to-one and group-based interventions relating to a range of potential risks and needs such as sexual and violent offending, fire-setting, problem solving, substance misuse and emotional regulation. The role will require implementation of specialist psychological interventions as per NICE and best practice guidelines. Therapeutic modalities used within treatment currently draw on a range of approaches including: Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Radically Open Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Cognitive Analytic Therapy, Compassion-Focused Therapy, and EMDR. We would welcome applications from individuals with experience in any of these approaches although ongoing CPD will be supported. The successful candidate will be involved in the evaluation and development of key aspects of the service.

Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, you will promote a psychologically informed approach within the hospital. Your role will, therefore, incorporate wider activities including staff training, reflective practice, formulation and de-brief sessions, service development and evaluation, research, and provision of clinical supervision.

You will have the ability to apply psychological knowledge to a psychiatric setting, adopting a systemic approach and responding flexibly to both the treatment requirements of mentally disordered individuals and the complexities associated with organisational settings.

You can expect your working week to be 37.5 hours. We offer the availability to work flexible hours but generally within a 9-5 Monday to Friday basis. Additional benefits include free parking, subsidised meals, working well benefits, 25 days holidays per year plus bank holiday and your birthday as a day off.
