The role
This is a rare and unmissable opportunity to join the team at ITV Good Morning Britain as a regional Camera Operator, covering the UK's beautiful West Country, with the opportunity to travel further afield, helping to make three hours of brilliant television each weekday morning. As the UK’s most talked-about breakfast show, we provide a broad mix of content across news, current affairs and entertainment. From warzones to weather, Eastenders to East Berlin, this is a job that never gets boring and offers new challenges and interest on a daily basis.
The ideal candidate should be a talented, versatile and dynamic lighting camera operator. They will be up to date with shooting methods, as well as the latest equipment and technology. They will be a great communicator and have the ability to direct and produce talent on location, happy to contribute to ideas and plans.
With a systematic approach to problem solving, they will have the ability to determine what makes a good shot and how camera work enhances creative storytelling. Due to the very nature of this role, confidentiality and discretion are a must. Demanding hours and varied locations mean that a flexible approach is essential. The candidate must hold a full UK driving licence and be happy to travel.
Skills needed (minimum criteria)
- A desire to cover news in all its forms from UN Summits and special news events to deployment in hostile environments and disaster zones.
- An ability to operate a range of camera and broadcast equipment, including LiveU and a KA satellite dish, working as part of the team assembling, preparing and setting up equipment prior to shooting.
- A willingness to chat to contributors and the relevant parties, to gain permissions to film in different locations.
- A readiness to use, transport, maintain and store equipment properly and prevent damage when prepping for shoots and on location, as well as maintain best working practices, observing ITV’s Health, Safety and Environmental policy and procedures.
- Good attitude: a team player and effective communicator, establishing and maintaining a good working relationship with the other camera operators, crew and on-screen talent.
- Ability to work within the budgetary and timescale limitations imposed by the production
- Ability to find solutions to technical or other practical problems in studio and on location.
- A willingness to take instruction and supervision from the crew leader; experimenting with shots and offering suggestions as well as taking responsibility in situations where there is only one camera operator involved in the filming.
- Happy to work long hours and occasional weekends and bank holidays.
- Happy to be contacted outside of working hours.
- A good standard of physical fitness, as certain aspects of the job are physically demanding.
- Ability to travel to different locations at short notice, including abroad.
Other things we’re looking for (key criteria)
The flexibility of an individual to be deployed to breaking news stories both home or abroad.
Ability to work outside of the box and be agile in the field when needed to ensure the work is a success and completed to a high standard.
A news brain to seek, investigate and report the stories that matter with an unbiased view.
