Job description

Fasken is looking for an experienced Marketing Specialist - Proposal Writer to join the Ontario Region’s BD & Marketing team.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Marketing Services (Ontario) the Marketing Specialist - Proposal Writer will write and produce documents including proposals, presentations, and directory submissions with the goals of securing legal work, highlighting the firm’s expertise and promoting individual lawyers and industry and practice groups.

The role is based in the firm’s Toronto office and we offer hybrid work arrangements.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Prepare pitch, proposal and credential documents in support of new business requests. Responsibilities include:
    • Work directly with lawyers to draft appropriate response and initiate kick off meetings
    • Provide strategic direction and insights, applying best practices to ensure responses are aligned to Fasken’s core values
    • Create first drafts using internal content and available tools
    • Work with internal stakeholders to gather and distill client/prospect and industry intelligence to assist lawyers in the proposal process
    • Oversee final production and submission process
    • Arrange for and execute debrief discussions with lawyers and clients as applicable and track outcomes
  • Manage and update resources and repositories on an ongoing basis as they relate to pitch, proposal and credential documents
  • Work with the pricing team to identify and develop relevant alternative pricing arrangements
  • Review procurement sites to proactively identify new business opportunities
  • Contribute to regional and firmwide projects related to the continual improvement of tools, content and processes
  • Work with internal stakeholders to provide background research for prospective client opportunities
  • Prepare and produce PowerPoint presentations and other materials required to help secure business for the firm
  • Work with lawyers and business development colleagues in the production of awards and ranking submissions
  • Assist in preparing regional reports and updates, as required

Required Knowledge and Experience

  • Post secondary education in marketing, communications, or a related field
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas in a clear and concise manner
  • Minimum 5+ years working on proposals
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office – Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Experience with InterAction or other CRM tools an asset
  • Strong preference for candidates with legal or other professional services-related firm experience
  • Highly collaborative at developing strong working relationships
