Interim Senior Property Solicitor – Housing Reference no: NW 5231991 Leicestershire Pay Rate: Up to £22.49 per hour PAYE depending on experience This opening assignment is for 3-4 months The purpose of the role is to be responsible for the provision of legal advice and representation in relation to commercial and residential property areas (subject to experience and relevant training) including due diligence; property transactions; regeneration projects; and compulsory purchase orders. Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the Head of Legal and Commercial Services and Legal Services Team Manager on issues of corporate governance including officer/member training, review of the constitution and providing advice on compliance and corporate governance. Ensuring compliance with the Council's constitution and relevant procedures.
- Support the Head of Legal and Commercial Services to ensure legality in the Council's decision-making process and that the Council's committees, boards, groups and working parties have the appropriate level of legal advice and support.
- Produce and review reports and agenda items and to brief the relevant officers on the legalities of such reports. To implement any subsequent action from the same including the briefing of the Chairman/Portfolio Holders/members as required.
- Liaise with external solicitors, counsel, etc who are acting on the Council's behalf in respect of legal issues. This includes the drafting of instructions.
- Carry out line management responsibilities in respect of the Property Legal Officer in accordance with instructions from the Legal Services Team Manager or Head of Legal and Commercial Services.
- As a member of the Practice Management team to input into the development of the Legal Services Business Plan and the setting of income generation targets.
- Qualified lawyer – Solicitor, Barrister, FILEX or do you have equivalent demonstrable legal experience.
- Minimum of 12 months recent experience in a similar role, or context and ideally within a public sector organisation.
- Experience of advocacy and/or delivering training/presentations.
- Ideally experienced in at least 3 of the following areas: Commercial Property Law, Residential Property Law, Compulsory Purchase Orders, Regeneration Projects, Local Government Law and Practice, Advising Committees.
- Ability to build and maintain rapport with others and work with a varying range of people at all levels.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills with good networking, influencing, negotiation and ambassadorial skills.
- Strong IT skills including Microsoft packages or equivalent (e.g. G Suite).
