The UK&I Project technician is part of a team responsible for undertaking the financial and technical delivery of allocated project activities related to the UK&I Industrial Gases Hydrogen for mobility offering at customer facilities.
The responsibility of this role is to control the onsite installation and commissioning of pressure systems, site modifications and ancillary equipment provided within the scope of any allocated Air Products projects in-line with all current quality, safety, prevailing statutory and Air Products Procedural requirements.
Design and project management is managed by a project manager/project engineer.
The role will be a mix of office and site work with require travel and time away as dictated by the workload. The successful candidate will be involved in projects, proposals, maintenance activities and on-site supervision/Construction supervision to both internal and external customers. Responsibilities within this role also extends to the successful contribution of the performance / KPI’s set for the project. A key objective will be the ability to manage multiple on-site projects concurrently, control of contractors and to strict time scales and budgets.
The ability to issue permit to work will be a key skill.
The Project technician will also ensure that all activities are undertaken in compliance with all applicable Air Products standards and procedures and legislative Codes of Practice that apply, as well as adherence to quality and service standards required by the business. These will be fully detailed and managed by the project manager.
Success in the role will require clear direction, planning and development of key relationships with the IG UK&I safety organization, site managers/stakeholders, and the project manager to ensure delivery of the project installation.
This is a key on site position for engineers who wish to develop their practical skills in contractor management and project processes in a varied environment. Effective communication with our internal and external stakeholders is essential.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
This position is accountable for:
- Effective and efficient on-site supervision and control of projects allocated in support of products within the UK&I business, generally Hydrogen for mobility and hydrogen energy systems for external customers and Air Products plant & depots.
- Ensuring effective development for and communication of functional objectives and performance to meet or exceed commercial needs.
- To proactively review and challenge the business processes utilized to manage and deliver the UK&I Industrial Gases engineering offering, ensuring these processes deliver optimal solutions.
- The safety performance of all allocated projects to maintain and develop the commitment to improve and embrace Company safety approach and culture. Direct support to the Project manager of the financial performance of the project in line with budgeted requirements.
- The on-site management of projects contained within the UK&I IG H2FM stack
- Work with the UK&I maintenance manager on handover of installations.
- Any other reasonable task as requested by an appropriate authority within the UK&I Supply Chain Structure. Monitoring and reporting of the performance of contractors.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Engineering background Minimum 5 years’ experience in on site supervision and control of contractors An awareness of ATEX requirements would be advantageous. Good process understanding (familiarity of P&IDs & other technical documentation) Understanding of legislative and statutory compliance desirable Good communication skills Excellent understanding of safety Ability to work to deadlines and manage multiple projects and priorities
