We are looking for Project Support Officers to work on digital and technology projects across Defra and our Arm's Length Bodies to deliver an excellent service for our customers. This role gives you an opportunity to be part of the Civil Service Project Delivery Function.
At Defra, you'll work alongside teams to deliver business change IT solutions that have a positive and important real-life impact. Projects can range from delivering outcomes for flooding emergency response to projects around farming, borders and trade. These projects are very different to each other so it’s a varied role with opportunities to learn new things and develop. We use a range of modern technologies at Defra, from AI and robotics through to cloud based systems.

The role of the Project Support Officer covers a diverse range of activities to support the delivery of the project’s objectives. The Project Support Officer enables the smooth running of the project by supporting the project manager or delivery manager through the operation of project management processes, and the co-ordination of business management actions and activities on their behalf.

Responsibilities
- Uses and recommends project control solutions for planning, scheduling, and tracking projects
- Recording, updating risks, issues and dependencies to ensure the success of the project
- Sets up and provides detailed guidance on project management software, procedures, processes, tools, and techniques
- Financial reporting and analysis
- Extraction, interrogation and presentation of data and management information from various sources
- Provides basic guidance on individual project proposals
- Sets up project files, compiles, and distributes reports
- Co-ordination, administrative services and attendance at project boards, project assurance teams and quality review meetings
- May be involved in providing a cross programme view on risk, change, quality, finance, or configuration management
Skills and experience
- Previous full project lifecycle project support experience
- Knowledge of the full IT project lifecycle including knowledge of Agile and/or Waterfall methodologies
- Working knowledge of risks, issues and dependencies management
- Ensures that realistic project, quality and finance plans are prepared and maintained and provides regular and accurate reports to stakeholders as appropriate
- Ensures quality reviews occur on schedule and according to procedure
- Ensures that change control procedures and project deliverables are completed within planned cost, timescale and resource budgets
- Raising quality standards across the team with a working knowledge of governance
Qualifications
Prince2 qualification or equivalent experience and a willingness to work toward a qualification. Defra is able to fund Prince2 qualification as part of your training and development.

Salary: £30,317.00-£36,606.00 per year
