Are you interested in science and working as part of a team?
Do you want to help deliver important research on emerging areas of science to inform decision making on critical issues?
If so, this is an exciting opportunity to join the Chief Scientist’s Group (CSG).
You will work with our research scientists on priority topics including addressing the impacts of climate change, moving to net zero and understanding the risks posed by microbes in the environment.
As the Project Support Officer (PSO), you will be a central point in enabling and delivering our research outcomes. You will work with others across the business and be the central coordinating point of emerging tasks.
You will drive our research programme, develop internal and external networks, and advance your skills by working in a range of projects and programmes.
In this role you will:
- help to set up and deliver internal and commissioned projects engage with other teams
- manage and update the CSG SharePoint site
- manage shared mailboxes
- provide Secretariat support to project meetings
- support with procurement and provide budget management support
- coordinate and track actions and risks
The Research Hub is a dispersed team across the country with a core hub in the Bristol Office. We use smart tools to stay connected and reduce travel, but some travel and overnight stays may be required. We promote a positive, inclusive, and supportive culture where everyone feels valued.
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. If you are new to the Environment Agency, you’ll be required have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. We'll help you to find and train for an incident role that suits your needs and circumstances
The team
You’ll join a friendly team at the heart of the CSG, which helps to deliver the research and evidence the Environment Agency needs to fulfil its duties.
We lead on science, research, analysis, and evaluation to identify evidence gaps and emerging trends, source evidence and translate and communicate it in compelling ways. Experience/skills required
Candidates will have previous PSO experience or demonstrable experience in a coordinating a administrative role. Ideally you should have:
an interest in research and in enabling the CSG to put strong science and rigorous analysis at the heart of the Environment Agency’s work.
an ability to develop and maintain good relationships with internal and external customers
evidence of delivering projects and programmes by planning, tracking, gathering, and maintaining data/information.
excellent organisational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities and competing demands.
good IT skills including the ability to use Office365, including SharePoint.
excellent communication skills are a must as you’ll be working with people with a range of specialisms.
A strong focus on your own development.
An understanding of managing budgets, finance reporting and monitoring purchase orders and invoices
Ability to problem solve and work under pressure to deadlines.
Great team working skills and an eye for detail
