Working into a Project Manager, you will facilitate delivery of projects through successful management and partnership of both internal resource and delivery partners, plus third-party suppliers Key Responsibilities:
- Supports the delivery of large-scale projects with significant complexity, involving sophisticated stakeholder management of internal networks and external partners, in a sensitive political environment
- Ensures delivery of projects to meet the agreed objectives, in line with quality standards, including adherence to all processes and procedures, governance requirements and communication standards
- Supports Project Manager to manage an indirect matrix project delivery team, including internal staff, agency and contract workers in order to ensure successful delivery of project objectives
- Supports management of the PMO, undertaking project planning (including scoping work packages and outputs, identifying key milestones and dependencies, highlighting and mitigating risks, managing cost controls etc), establishing and maintaining PPM tools (e.g. project plan, risk and issues registers, decision log) to facilitate monitoring and ensure delivery is on track, and leads delivery of certain work packages directly, as required
- Manages an effective and responsive reporting programme, which aligns with reporting mechanisms and caters to the needs of different audiences
- Supports management of an effective governance programme, including a senior stakeholder steering group, informing of progress, and influencing and driving senior level decision making in a timely manner to keep projects on track
- Maintains effective working relationships with the project Sponsor, suppliers’ and contractors’ project management teams as appropriate to facilitate the smooth running of the project
- Coordinates activity to support effective budget management within financial management mechanisms, identifying and escalating cost risks
- Monitors resource plan to ensure that the resource requirements for projects are communicated and agreed by relevant stakeholders

- Professional qualification in Project/Programme Management such as PRINCE 2, APMP or MSP
- Solid knowledge and understanding of project and programme management methodologies and their practical application in a transport setting
- Strong knowledge and understanding of project control tools and techniques
- Strong knowledge and understanding of project budgeting, procurement processes and contract management in a project management setting
- Experience in complex multi-disciplinary and matrix-managed environments, with direct and indirect influencing skills
- Demonstrable experience of coordinating large multi-disciplinary teams in a matrix environment in a large, complex organisation and ensuring that they deliver to time, budget and quality
- Experience of managing delivery through others, including external contractors and/or suppliers
- Experience of delivery and stakeholder management at a senior level
- Proven record of supporting delivery of large-scale (£5+m value) projects and programmes in a large, complex organisation, where there are multiple interfaces, and delivering to time, budget and quality standards
