The Portfolio Management Office (PMO) at the GSK Ware Manufacturing Site (in Hertfordshire) is responsible for the planning and completion of specific site projects (as defined by the Site Leadership Team). The Portfolio Management Office works to ensure that these projects are delivered to the required level of quality, in the appropriate timescales and within budget.

Job Purpose:

Working directly for the PMO Programme Manager, you will take responsibility for the provision of project planning to support Project and Programme Managers at the Ware manufacturing site to ensure high quality project delivery. You will develop and maintain suitable project controls that will assist site projects and programmes to deliver target outcomes and benefits at the site. You will work closely with Project Managers, Programme Managers, and the Strategy Director to build and maintain project controls in accordance with documented best practice (this will include managing interactive project planning sessions).

Key Responsibilities (include):

  • Creating and maintaining integrated schedules for workstreams, programmes, and portfolios. This entails working with members of the PMO team to ensure a consistent project planning approach across the site.

  • Assisting (and guiding) the creation and maintenance of various core project documents, including the development of monthly project, Programme, and portfolio reports (in the form of graphical, written and tabular outputs).

  • Identifying and reporting activities that potentially jeopardise the timely delivery of project outcomes and Programme / portfolio benefits.

  • Providing support and guidance to Project and Programme Managers on project planning including software tools (e.g. MS Project to colleagues across site). Managing and interpreting data from MS Project to produce project / Programme information as required.

  • Contributing to the creation of Reports and Communications for the Programme and site governance meetings, as well as training / coaching Project Managers (e.g. estimation, scheduling, and risk management). Providing support to Project Managers to understand and effectively use the standards, procedures and tools for project management at the Ware site.

  • Managing scenario planning as directed (e.g. effect of changes to product launch dates on demand for resource by function).

PLEASE NOTE – This is a circa 18-month Fixed Term Contract (FTC) opportunity.

About You:

This role would suit a self-motivated person who has experience of working in a cross-functional, global supply organisation. You will have strong project planning experience in large scale projects. You will be resilient and calm under pressure, with strong people skills and a proven ability to influence people to achieve and drive performance. You will have a strong continuous improvement mindset and have strong demonstrable organisational skills. Good communication skills in all formats (written, oral, presentation).

About Ware Manufacturing Site:

Medicines at Ware are presented as either Respiratory devices or in Oral Solid Dose form. The site holds a unique position in our network as the only site responsible for launching the company’s pipeline of new medicines in these dose forms, many of which are life saving medicines. A series of investments in new state-of-the-art equipment are being made that will support the delivery of a record number of new products. This must be achieved whilst consistently delivering outstanding quality, service and value to our patients.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Relevant Project Planning operational / manufacturing experience / qualifications (ideally with Membership of appropriate professional body and/or Project Planning/Management qualification)

  • Knowledge / experience of Microsoft Project software

  • Knowledge / experience in the use of Microsoft Office software (particularly Excel)
