About us:

Manchester is on a mission to deliver the homes that people want and need. The Council’s new Housing Strategy, launched last year, sets out our long-term vision to meet the housing demands of our growing city while contributing to its economic recovery and sustainability goals. Over the past two decades, Manchester has experienced unprecedented growth, attracting more residents and workers than ever before. To keep up with this demand, we're building more new properties than we have in over a decade, creating diverse, vibrant and sustainable neighbourhoods.

Your Role:

We're dedicated to delivering impactful housing projects that shape the city's future. As a Housing Project Officer, you'll play a vital role in helping us achieve the Housing Strategy’s ambitious goal of delivering 36,000 new homes by 2032 – including 10,000 affordable. Here's what you'll be doing:

1. Increasing affordable housing supply and build more new homes for all residents - You'll work on expanding our housing options, making sure everyone in our city has access to a home that fits their budget and meets their needs.

2. Working to end homelessness and ensure housing is affordable and accessible to all - You'll contribute to our mission to end homelessness and ensure housing is accessible to all residents.

3. Addressing inequalities and create neighbourhoods where people want to live - Addressing inequalities is a key focus for the Council, and you'll be instrumental in building inclusive neighbourhoods where everyone wants to live.

4. Addressing the sustainability and zero-carbon challenges in new and existing housing - You'll tackle the sustainability challenge head-on by helping us address zero-carbon challenges in the housing sector

Why Join Us?

  • Meaningful Impact: Your work will directly impact the lives of Manchester's residents, helping them find affordable, quality housing.
  • Growth Opportunities: This is your opportunity to kickstart your career in the housing sector and gain valuable experience in a fast-paced and impactful environment. Be part of a dynamic team in a city that's continuously evolving.
  • Work-Life Balance: We value our employees' well-being and offer flexible work arrangements.

Qualifications:

  • A passion for housing and community development.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • A collaborative and proactive mindset.
  • Experience in housing strategy, planning, or related fields is a plus but not a must.
Why Manchester?
Manchester is often ranked as one of the best cities in the world to live, highly rated for its ‘nightlife’, ‘creativity’, ‘community spirit’, ‘friendliness’ and ‘getting to know your neighbours’. We are home to the UK’s largest indoor arena, its second largest international airport, major sporting venues, great public transport options, and is right in the heart of the nation’s motorway network. On our doorstep are National Parks, areas of outstanding natural beauty and stunning coastlines. Within the City, our 600,000 residents live in every kind of housing from modern residential skyscrapers, traditional Victorian terraced neighbourhoods, to leafy suburban districts.
This role involves blended / hybrid working. You may be able to work from home or remotely some of the time, or for certain tasks or limited days or hours. For the remainder of the time, you will be required to work at council sites or offices. This will depend on your role’s responsibilities and your personal circumstances.
