Base: Flexible home working potential (with formal Milton Keynes head office base)
Job Type: Full time 12 months fixed term contract (with the possibility of extension)
Salary: £21,500 - £22,500

The National Energy Foundation (NEF) is an independent charity based in Milton Keynes, which has been at the forefront of improving the use of energy in buildings since 1988. We aim to give people, organisations and government the knowledge, support and inspiration they need to understand, manage and reduce the use of energy in buildings.
Role Summary
Our Project Officers are fundamental to the successful delivery of NEF’s programmes and projects. In this role you will principally be working with our team promoting whole house retrofit. This is an exciting time for our whole house team with growing demand for upgrading the energy efficiency, reducing emissions, improving occupant health and comfort in existing UK housing. The main programmes of our work you will be involved in are the SuperHomes Network and the Heat Pump Ready programme, plus any other retrofit projects that the team undertake.
You will be responsible for core project deliverables, which will include significant contact with our project partners, customers, members and funders of NEF. You could from time to time also be involved in one of our other work streams, which might include liaising with people in fuel poverty, young people and those seeking support and advice on how to reduce the carbon foot print of their home. You’ll also be representing NEF at public and online meetings and events. To succeed in this role, you’ll need be highly organised, diligent, able to write accurate copy and have strong verbal communication skills.
This role might be suited to either a graduate with limited experience, or someone without a degree but with relevant experience in an energy efficiency or similar related role.
Key Responsibilities
- To assist with project management, task delivery and provide administrative support to ensure the smooth operation of our SuperHomes membership network, funded projects and retrofit rating scheme focused on whole house retrofit.
- To assist with project management, task delivery and provide administrative support to ensure the smooth operation of the Heat Pump Ready programme, for which we are a key project partner.
- To work with the Senior Project Officer, Retrofit Coordinators and Marketing to ensure there is sufficient copy for monthly e-newsletters for the SuperHomes Network and that the project has an active social media profile.
- Liaise with our project delivery partners, network members, customers and funders on a regular basis via phone, email, online and public meetings to ensure projects and programmes are efficiently delivered.
- Assist with the management of SuperHomes Network by keeping records up to date, monitoring the inbox and phoneline, processing new memberships and dealing with annual renewals.
- Provide secretariat services to programme steering groups, including arranging meetings, suggesting agendas, taking minutes and ensuring all participants are cognisant with the aims of the programmes.
- Assist the Senior Project Officer with the administration and reporting of project progress.
- Contribute to the preparation of grant funding applications where necessary.
- Assist the Senior Project Officer with the planning and delivery of the SuperHomes Network member events.
- Manage a range of systems and processes, including our CRM database.
- Adhere fully to NEF Quality Management Systems (QMS).
- Support, assist and deputise for other members of NEF as workload and/or circumstances might require.
- Other activities as agreed with Line Manager.
Person Specification
- Highly organised, with a methodical approach to projects, a keen eye for detail, the ability to plan and prioritise multiple tasks.
- Excellent verbal (including telephone) and written communication skills.
- An enthusiastic approach and the ability to work both individually and as part of a team.
- The ability to engage with people confidently and effectively; remotely, one-to-one and in groups.
- An interest in climate change, energy saving and renewable energy (although training will also be given).
- Ability and willingness to travel. Regular travel to events is a feature of the job.
- Ability to work outside of office hours, by arrangement.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Excel, Word and SharePoint.
- Possession of a full UK driving licence and use of a car with business insurance cover.
Desirable (not essential)
- A degree in a building or energy related subject or one where public health features as a major strand.
- Experience of working in the built environment sector ideally connected with energy efficiency.
