Government
Inmarsat’s Government business unit delivers against the requirements for voice, data and video services with demand for global availability and utmost reliability. Whether a military commander on operations, a government official responding to a local emergency or a head of state conducting international affairs, Inmarsat provides them with essential access to voice and broadband data, where and when they need it.
Primary role purpose:
The satellite industry is facing severe disruption over the coming years as new entrants and technological advances fundamentally transform the market. As a result, the competitive challenges for the traditional satellite players are increasing at an unprecedented level. Faced with this new reality, achieving growth in our traditional markets will become ever more challenging. Against this backdrop the Strategy and Growth Programmes team leads the charge for Global Government in developing and executing strategies and plans that keep Inmarsat competitive in our markets today and into the future.
The primary purpose of this role is to lead and manage government projects to support the objectives of the Strategy and Growth Programmes team, ensuring assigned project work is delivered on time and to a high-quality standard. You will execute a wide range of tasks including managing stakeholders, producing regular reports, coordinating resources and tracking progress and performance, and any other tasks required to get the project done. You will report to the project business owner, Senior Director of Strategy and Growth Programmes or his direct reports, to ensure that project outcomes are met, delivered on time and to agreed standards.
Key responsibilities:
- Coordinate the project team to meet schedule and budgetary requirements as defined by the management plans and project schedule
- Produce and manage project plans (PMP, RMP, WBS, OBS, etc.) to deliver the project outcomes on time, on budget and at the agreed quality standard.
- Project documentation such as regular reports showing resource allocation and utilisation, project budgets (actual v forecast), project status and risks.
- Customer-focused status reporting, ensuring that, as far as practicable, customers are fully informed on delivery progress.
- Manage cross-functional stakeholders (CTO, COO, Procurement, Contracts, etc.) as required to support the project execution.
- Manage suppliers and contractors where necessary to ensure delivery is on time and to specification
- Execute any project management related activities as required by the business owner
- Conduct problem solving analysis and risk reviews to resolve project-related issues and take necessary actions to mitigate risk
- Report on identified risks, issues and recommendations to the business owner
- Maintain and apply quality and configuration management processes for project activities and outputs
- To be responsible for health, safety and security of the project team in accordance with Inmarsat policies.
- To be aware of and comply with Company Standards of Conduct and all relevant statutory requirements.
- To carry out any other reasonable management request
Essential Knowledge and Skills:
- Project delivery experience (e.g., project scheduling, budgeting, management, etc.) using industry standard methodologies and project manager tools
- Ability to produce project management plans and documentation such as PMP and RMP
- Strong presentation and written communication skills
- Ability to work well in a team environment and coordinate activities across functions
- Highly organised, detail oriented and self-motivated
- Collaborative mind-set and strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to remain positive in high pressure and stressful situations
- Critical thinking, communication, and relationship-building skills
- Flexible / resourceful approach, independent problem solver
- Confident and articulate with senior leaders
- Minimum bachelor’s degree required
- Advanced computer skills in MS Office including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project
Desired Knowledge and Skills:
- Experience working with and delivering services and projects related to software development and/or network infrastructure is highly regarded.
- Certified in APM, PRINCE2, Agile, PMI, PMBOK or similar Project Management establishments.
- Degree in an engineering discipline (networks, computer, software, or similar)
