The Strategic Programme Management Office is an expanding team at the heart of the University, responsible for supporting large scale change programmes designed to transform critical elements of the University’s delivery operation and impact positively on our students’ experience. Our aspirations are laid out in UWS Strategy 2025 and our Strategic Programme Management Office team is responsible for the successful delivery of the range of programmes and projects designed to achieve our ambitions.


THE POST – Project Manager


We are seeking to appoint to this new role an experienced and flexible individual who can support a portfolio of project activities within a programme environment. These span a wide range of business processes, across our Student Experience, Digital Transformation, and Organisational Effectiveness and all have a clear connection to larger scale programmes and our strategy. Using Prince2 and Managing Successful Programmes methodologies, you will manage and facilitate strategic initiatives, ensuring the delivery of sponsor-defined outcomes and organisational business improvement goals. You will advise and support Project Sponsors and other internal stakeholders from the point of identification, through project specification and design implementation to the establishment of project outcomes.


The successful candidate should have the following:

  • Demonstrable project and/or programme management skills and experience and qualifications (such as PRINCE2, MSP), including the successful application of project and programme management methods, governance, techniques and tools for the effective management of initiatives.
  • Proven track record in successfully leading large scale projects working to tight and challenging deadlines.
  • Experience of creating and managing plans for complex and varied projects including budgets and resources, prioritisation and scheduling of conflicting tasks.
  • Experience of monitoring and managing programme risks and benefits, with the ability to take decisive action to achieve successful delivery of project outcomes.
