Ringway Jacobs are looking for an enthusiastic individual to join the Structures team as an Assistant Project Manager in Chelmsford. The successful applicant will assist the Project Management Team in developing, monitoring, and ensuring the successful implementation of schemes whilst ensuring strict financial and budgetary control over the programme of works.

Working in the Project Management Team requires good written and verbal communication skills These will be essential in the preparation of public communication, internal coordination and assisting in delivering successful projects.
The Role
  • Assist the Project Management team with the delivery of structures task orders.
  • Assist with the resource schedule and team workload.
  • Ensure strong budgetary and financial control – attending finance meetings as needed.
  • Ensure the relevant KPIs are met though monitoring and reporting.
  • Drive good project management practices to enable smooth delivery of works between financial years.
  • Maintain project documentation; spend, forecasts and progress reviews as applicable.
  • As directed provide support to other members of the team in the design and development of projects, undertaking duties as instructed to produce successful outcomes.
  • Adopt a ‘One Team’ approach to working across Design Services and the wider business to ensure Ringway Jacobs delivers a successful and professional service to its customers.
  • Stay abreast with changes in policy, standards and current highway design thinking, identifying efficiencies and innovations to the business.
  • Support Health and Safety, Environmental Management System, Quality Management System and Construction Design Management in a positive and constructive manner, by implementing Essex Highways policies and procedures.
  • Understands the overall functions, aims and directions of Essex Highways, and how the structures service fits into those objectives.
  • Carry out any other reasonable duties that may be directed or implied from time to time commensurate to the post and/or organisational requirements.
  • Assist in the control of project resource costings.
  • Update project programmes.
  • Report issues to management.


Job Description
About You
As an Assistant Project Manager, you will be working on a variety of projects.
Key traits/skills will include:
  • Foundation APM, Prince 2 or working towards Prince 2, or equivalent qualification, or reasonable experience in an Assistant Project Managers role.
  • A reasonable level of project management experience.
  • Experience of dealing with stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to prioritise own work to support business priorities. Manages own performance and seeks feedback to improve where identified.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with key people both internally and externally.
  • Proficient with Microsoft applications– Word, Outlook, Project, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to work alone or within a team.
  • Good organisational skills.
  • Good time management skills.
  • May be required to travel to other office locations within Essex to support the business as needed.
  • Have a flexible approach to work.
  • Able to attend the office at least two days a week in central Chelmsford.
