About the role

We are currently recruiting for a Project Manager to join QinetiQ Target Systems (QTS) within our Business Delivery Team. QTS is a wholly owned subsidiary of QinetiQ Group PLC, specialising in the design and manufacture of a range of state-of-the-art Unmanned Aerial and Surface Target systems, including the world-leading Banshee target.

QTS targets are used to enable realistic weapons test and evaluation and operator training in over 40 countries worldwide, with QTS providing a complete managed service in over 15 of these countries.

What will I be doing?

Reporting to the Vice President, you will be responsible for leading small to medium sized projects within the QinetiQ Target Systems UK business. The projects are likely to be multi-functional working closely with the Engineering, Operations and Field Services teams.

A particular focus for this role is to be the primary point of contact and local leader for the delivery of joint projects between the QTS UK and Canadian businesses where the overall lead is in Canada but there is a significant portion of work to be delivered in the UK.

You will work closely with colleagues in the customer account teams in both Ashford and Canada to help bid future work.

Duties will include:
Management of one or more QTS internal and / or external small to medium projects ensuring that the projects meet time, cost and quality expectations.

Act as the local leader and primary point of contact within QTS UK for projects being delivered to QTS Canada.

Developing project scopes and objectives, involving all relevant stakeholders and ensuring technical feasibility

Develop and maintain detailed project plans to track progress

Coordinate internal resources and third parties/suppliers for the successful execution of projects

Ensure resource availability and allocation, working with other Project Managers to deconflict and prioritise as necessary to meet business needs

Manage changes in project scope, schedule and costs

Measure project performance using appropriate systems, tools and techniques

Report and escalate to senior management as needed

Manage relationships with customers and other stakeholders as required

Perform risk management to minimise project risks

Ensure that other applicable company processes are followed (e.g. Engineering Design)

Provide Support to Bids and Business Case Development

Promote strong collaboration between different QinetiQ sites

What do I need?

You will have demonstrable experience of project scheduling, cost control and technical performance measurement leading to required project outcomes, and be able to operate autonomously and reactively to changing requirements.

You’ll have 3 years Project Management experience in a relevant industry and have strong management and stakeholder management skills.

We also ask that you:
are comfortable working with many internal stakeholders

are able to turn complex requirements in to simple and achievable plans

have good IT skills

are calm and able to work well under pressure

are a good communicator, both written and oral

are an excellent team player

are an experienced user of MS Project and other MS Office tools

A Project Management qualification (APM, Prince 2 etc) and / or experience in a product design and manufacturing environment would be a distinct advantage.
