Join Police Digital Service as Project Manager (PM)
This role will involve providing professional project management support to develop plans and manage the delivery of a number of the National Capabilities projects through both internal and external resources and technology partners; completed on time and within budget, that the project's objectives are met and that everyone else is doing their job properly. Ensuring risks & issues are effectively managed and working with the PMO to ensure correct governance and reporting are being followed.

The Role and Responsibilities
- Understanding and agreeing project objectives and plan(s) with Programme Manager / Agreeing the right resource mix for delivery in accordance with the Delivery RACI
- Day to day management of the PDS projects to deliver the operational accountabilities to achieve service satisfactory to Forces & Stakeholders
- Promoting the public wider good in all actions, acting in a morally, legally and socially appropriate manner in dealings with stakeholders and members of PDS and Forces teams
- Representing the PDS and Forces’ interests when engaging with suppliers and aligning interests whenever possible
- Making sure that all the aims of the projects are met and raising exception reports to Project Boards, if for a stated reason this is no longer possible
- Managing the delivery of the PDS projects to agreed time, cost and quality schedules and contracts
- Organising the various professional people and suppliers working on the project to ensure alignment with project plans and timely delivery of their respective inputs
- Carrying out risk assessment and dealing with / mitigating risks at an appropriate level, escalating where necessary
- Making sure the quality standards agreed to by Project Boards are met
- Using project reporting and control processes to keep track of people and progress
- If required, participate in the recruitment and management of specialists and sub-contractors as appropriate
- Monitoring sub-contractors to ensure guidelines are maintained
- Reporting to the PMO and senior stakeholders on progress
- Evaluating the success of the project against its objectives and sharing lessons or best practice with other organisations or project managers
What you need to succeed in the role
Project management certification or substantial experience (e.g. APM, Prince2).- Management qualification, or equivalent, with proven team and supplier management knowledge – to SFIA Level 6 (initiate and influence).
- Strong technical background and exposure to a wide range of technology platforms and solutions, ideally having worked in supplier relevant roles.
- Knowledge and understanding of Industry Best Practice and relevant Project Management Guidelines and approaches in major change initiatives.
- Significant experience in project management – especially in scope, performance, cost control, delivery, scheduling, resourcing, risk management and demand management.
- Significant experience of financial control, reporting and monitoring – relating to in-scope project(s) delivery.
- Proven experience in the delivery of highly technical solutions into complex IT environments using suppliers, partners and specialists.
- Proven experience in the delivery of digital transformation that has resulted in successful process and business change, with strong adoption.
- Proven experience of contract design and management – to ensure that such contracts are outcome driven and encourage co-operation and not confrontation.
- Demonstrable project experience in procurement and management of multi skilled project teams, contractors and suppliers.
- Experience of working in previous technical roles with development into solutions delivery management.
- Demonstrate experience of leading and managing technical teams, consisting of internal, contract and supplier staff in a large complex multi-faceted organisation.
- Proven domain knowledge in terms of the successful delivery and/or transition of internal service(s) to managed service providers and/or outsourcing environments.
- Demonstrate a track record of developing strong working relationships with a wide number of stakeholders, particularly in managing expectations across a large number of Forces as stakeholders.
