Jisc is the UK higher, further education and skills sectors’ not-for-profit organisation for digital services and solutions. We believe education and research improves lives, and technology improves education and research.
Our vision is for the UK to be a world leader in technology for education and research and our mission is to power and empower our members with the technology and data they need to succeed. We know that digital technology has the ability to transform the student experience. We have the experience, expertise and know-how to drive that transformation.

This is a fantastic opportunity to work in cloud solutions, part of Jisc Cloud. The cloud solutions team deliver professional services projects to Jisc customers, each project is managed by a dedicated project manager.
Project managers in Jisc Cloud are responsible for managing a portfolio of projects, ranging in value from £5,000 to £100,000, spanning a few days to several months. They ensure that projects KPIs are achieved: projects are implemented and delivered on schedule, in scope, in budget, and to a high level of customer satisfaction.

About the team and role:
The Jisc Cloud team aims to help universities, colleges and learning providers use cloud technologies effectively to deliver education and research. We do this by offering four core services:

  • Advice: we will provide guidance on best practice in establishing sustainable, well architected, secure and value for money cloud implementations.
  • Purchase: we offer purchasing frameworks that offer services from the major cloud providers at a discount
  • Help: we work with universities, colleges, learning providers and customers to design, build and deploy cloud solutions, we offer managed cloud services to customers that need them
  • Product: we manage a varied portfolio of products that help universities, colleges, learning providers and customers deliver education and research by using cloud or mobility technologies.

You will need to be prepared to put forward, consider, recommend, and drive amendments to ensure that the project stays on track to achieve its priority targets. You are also expected to provide regular updates to the Project Management Office and occasionally senior management teams within Cloud Solutions.
Most of the work will involve working with external clients, however there may be opportunities to be involved in collaborative projects with other directorates and divisions from across Jisc.
You will be working collaboratively with the team (other project managers and technical solutions teams), adopt our standardised project management approach (defined by our quality standards), and will report to the Cloud services project manager.
Occasional travel may be required.

Key Skills and Experience:

  • Experience of project managing the implementation of cloud solution projects or technology-enabled business change programmes or similar.
  • Working experience of using project management software and tools for project management, task management and communication/collaboration tools (Microsoft Teams, SharePoint) .
  • Demonstrable project management skills and thorough understanding of different project management methodologies.
  • A flexible and adaptable approach to manage multiple projects at any one time.
  • Ability to engage constructively and negotiate with other project stakeholders, particularly on the technology side (e.g., technology leads, product owners, etc.)
