Job description
The main objective of the Project Manager role within the Research Project Management (RPM) Team is to lead on the management of the team’s portfolio of research projects. The post-holder will also lead on the development of new proposals and commercial tenders with relevant funding bodies.
The RPM office is an integral part of Imperial’s Enterprise Department, which provides commercial and business management services to support the award and delivery of funded programmes and projects. The work of Enterprise directly underpins Imperial’s mission, thereby supporting the development of new or enhanced research, education and/or translation capabilities across all faculties of the university and on behalf of Imperial’s academic community. The RPM has a specific focus on managing high-profile international projects (and bids) funded by the European Commission, Research Council, and other funding bodies.
The current portfolio is mostly funded by the European Commission and made up of projects from the Horizon2020 Programme, but it includes projects from the new Horizon Europe Programme. The new programme facilitates collaboration and strengthens the impact of research and innovation in developing, supporting, and implementing EU policies while tackling global challenges. It supports creating and better dispersing of excellent knowledge and technologies. You will have the opportunity to be part of this exciting new chapter in European Commission research funding and will ensure that RPM projects meet the funder’s goals and requirements.
Duties and responsibilities
You will work alongside other members of the RPM team to provide efficient leadership on all project management requirements of the current portfolio of international EC funded projects. The role includes managing the services for our public and commercial clients and partners, manage all contractual and financial matters and act as the main point of contact with the funder on behalf of the project coordinator. You will ensure that the projects are delivered on time and according to objectives and will support the development of new proposals.
It will be important for you to interface with key academic staff, Imperial College supporting services’ staff, as well as external partners from various projects’ consortia. You will be responsible for monitoring project progress and communicate it to our Imperial College supporting services, external clients/partners, and funders.
Essential requirements
We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated candidate that embraces change and adapts quickly to our variety of research projects and its demands. Some of the essential requirements are:
- Project Management experience with scientific research projects.
- EU funding experience including reporting, financial and contractual.
- Excellent communication and liaison skills.
- Experience of working in large and complex organisations, especially in higher education.
Further information
This is a part time (0.6 FTE, 21 hours per week) and fixed term post until May 2025. You will be based at South Kensington Campus.
