With over 50 years of experience in the rail industry, we’ve delivered complex and challenging multidisciplinary projects all over the world. Our expertise extends to depots, operations, maintenance analytics and asset management across all aspects of rail, including transport, technical and sustainability assessments and systems infrastructure.
Owing to a growing pipeline of project-related works, EGIS is seeking an experienced candidate for the position of Senior Project Manager. Ideally you will be based in Bristol though you could also be based in London or Birmingham.
Job description
As an Associate level Project Manager you will be responsible for ensuring that key project risks and constraints are identified at the earliest opportunity to inform client decision making.
Focusing principally on feasibility stage projects and operating in accordance with all necessary statutory/regulatory processes (HM Treasury Green Book, Environmental Impact Assessment, Town and Country Planning Act/Development Consent Order) the Consultant will successfully integrate and manage workstreams (including town planning, property, environment, design and cost estimation) to develop a coherent project delivery strategy on behalf of our clients.
You will also be expected to participate and contribute to the tendering process for new projects.
Typically, the role will demand the following contributions:
- Becoming a trusted advisor to client organisations, shaping and influencing decision making.
- Developing project delivery strategies in accordance with time, cost, quality and risk sensitivities.
- Leading the production of technical reports (which may include HM Green Book business cases and Environment Impact Assessment deliverables) and communicating content to a broad range of clients.
- Periodic reporting of project performance at management board level (e.g., progress, strategy, cost, risks and programme).
- Developing cost/risk management strategies and undertake periodic risk updates and manage/mitigate all project risks.
- Ensuring that projects are delivered safely taking account of all statutory and standard driven requirements.
- Working with clients to establish an effective relationship supporting effective delivery, performance measurement and management of change.
- Developing and managing the project team (including external suppliers/subconsultants), monitoring adequate resources available to deliver a flexible, competent, skilled and effective workforce at all times.
- Developing a robust programme and implementing measures to mitigate or control programme slippage.
- Identifying priority opportunities within the project and leading promotion and sharing of best practice within the programme organisation.
- Monitoring delivery timescales so that there is adequate consideration of the interdependencies between other projects and programme.
- Monitoring finances and implementing the necessary control measures to ensure delivery within budget.
- Identifying and implementing quality and efficiency improvement initiatives
- Supporting, and occasionally leading, the production of project tenders including attendance a tender interview.
Profile
Skills and Experience
Essential:
- Experience of the UK rail industry, Town and Country Planning Act and Environmental Impact Assessment.
- Educated to degree level, highly literate, and an experienced user of MS Office software.
- Experience of providing Project Management services at the early stages of the project lifecycle (GRIP/PACE/RIBA Stages 1-3).
- Experience of leading and influencing project direction and strategy.
- Being chartered, a full member of a professional body (e.g., APM/PMI) or possessing a master’s qualification in project management.
- Being proficient in the management of contracts (typically NEC3/4).
Desirable:
- Better Business Case Practitioner Accreditation and experience of business case appraisal frameworks (such as the Department for Transport's TAG framework, HM Treasury Five Case model).
- An appreciation of how transport can be the catalyst for regeneration and economic growth (including interactions with housing, commercial development, funding and financing and social policy)
- NEC3/4 ECC PM accreditation.
