The Project

Apex has recently been invited to become a delivery partner for the hugely successful and award winning Fit, Fed & Read (FFR) Holiday camps with the Herts Sports partnership (HSP).

Fit, Fed & Read (FFR) Camps are FREE activity camps that aim to tackle the inequalities of holiday hunger, social isolation, physical inactivity and educational attainment experienced by children aged

8-11 years old from low-income families during the school holidays. Children have the opportunity to take part in a variety of sports, arts and enrichment activities. These include visits from partner organisations on the programme, Hertfordshire Libraries, Herts Fire & Rescue Service and Herts

Constabulary. The fourth partner, Herts Catering Limited provides the children with a hot meal each day.

The Role

Apex is looking to appoint a Full time position to lead on the Fit Fed and Read project as well as

assist and support Apex Franchisees in other areas of Apex delivery. Your role could involve a range

of duties and we are seeking someone who is adaptable and flexible. Typical duties may include:

● Recruitment - Selecting & interviewing appropriate candidates for the FFR roles.

● Organising the completion and recording all records of qualifications and relevant checks for staff (DBS, Safeguarding, First Aid, Food Hygiene, SEND training, etc)

● Managing all camp staff and organising their timetables. As well as communicating with staff regularly to keep up to date with any concerns or things that may need improving.

● Supplying staff with training days and upskilling them in any areas they feel requires improvement.

● Understanding and complying with programme policies and procedures relating to safeguarding and protecting children, health, safety and security, confidentiality, and data protection.

● Ensuring each venue chef has been given an up to date number for lunch and accurate dietary and allergy information for the children attending on each day.

● Able to deliver during term time, PE lessons, lunch & after school clubs in Hertfordshire

● Participating in mandatory training and other learning activities as required.

● Completing statutory records, monitoring and reports as required.

Locations, working hours and pay

Locations:

Our camps are expected to run in the following locations:
1. Bennetts End, Hemel Hempstead
2. Cowley Hill, Borehamwood
3. Holywell, Watford
4. Sopwell, St Albans
5. South Oxhey, Three Rivers

Our Apex office is based in Hemel Hempstead, HP2 7BA.
Schools in the Hertfordshire area.

Will include - Remote working/ venue visits/ travel for regular meetings.

Working hours: 9.00am to 5.00pm Monday - Friday (flexible working hours)

Wage: Starting from £20,000 +OTE

Person Specification
We are looking for organised, proactive, confident, and someone with great communications skills who can demonstrate the following skills and experience:

Essential

A passion for working with children and young people.

Experience of working with children in any setting.

Ideally have a minimum 3 years experience delivering in a school or similar environment. Teaching or coaching.

Have a good level of administrative skills.

An ability to build professional rapport with children and adults, derived around a professional and trusting relationship.

A willingness to liaise with parents and staff delivering high-quality customer service.

Ability to independently travel to and from camp locations.

Possess a basic understanding of the statutory health and safety requirements expected of a coach/ teacher/ camp leader or similar role.

An ability to communicate effectively with HSP project staff and other key partners.

Leading and managing a team to deliver excellent customer service, quality and performance.

A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children and young people.

Essential

Experience of supporting children with challenging behaviours.

Previous experience in relation to delivering, managing or coordinating after school or holiday camps in schools.

Full driving licence and access to a reliable vehicle.

Experience coaching a sport, games or delivering activities of any kind.

Experience of leading arts and crafts based activities

A positive attitude and a proactive team player who can work collaboratively with other delivery staff members to deliver high quality provision and activities and well as take the lead to help others to improve.

Hold a valid food hygiene qualification and/or food handling qualification

Before any delivery commences, you will be expected to read literature on all our policies and procedures, hold a safeguarding and first aid qualification (opportunity to achieve these will be offered) and attend any mandatory training sessions – these training sessions will be online and in person.
