Job description
Bawso Oral Stories Project Associate
The George Ewart Evans Centre for Storytelling (GEECS) is a research centre located within the Faculty of Business and Creative Industries at the University of South Wales. We believe storytelling creates better understanding between individuals and communities across society. The ‘Bawso BME Oral Stories’ project is funded by a National Lottery Heritage grant and led by Bawso, an all-Wales voluntary organisation providing specialist services to victims and people affected by Domestic Abuse and all forms of violence; including Female Genital Mutilation, Forced Marriage, Honor Based Violence and Human Trafficking, in collaboration with GEECS and the National Museum Wales.
Based at our Cardiff campus, this Project Associate role will provide an opportunity to utilise a range of research, project planning, oral history and digital storytelling skills.
The main purpose of the job is to undertake and contribute to project activity, and to support the project team on the ‘Bawso BME Oral Stories’ project in line with the project plan, and to deliver against the project objectives and targets- including creating a collection of oral histories and digital stories relating to the intangible heritage of BME communities who have moved to Wales. The successful candidate will be motivated, able to work independently, and be experienced in either oral history collection and/or digital storytelling facilitation, in working with diverse communities, and in academic research.
The successful candidate will be a key member of Bawso Oral Stories project team understanding and contributing to the project plan, management and output and therefore will need to develop and maintain excellent working relationships with the project team in USW, Bawso and National Museum Wales.
This is a 0.8 fixed term post for the 12-month duration of the funded project.

The post-holder will be working closely with Bawso and their service users. This post is open to female applicants only as being female is deemed to be a genuine occupational requirement under Schedule 9, Paragraph 1 of the Equality Act 2010.
