We are recruiting an Accounting Project Coordinator, who will provide financial support to the Planning and Development Service’s (PDS) General Manager Office, Service Excellence division and lead the implementation of new, relevant public sector standards for the PDS Finance division.

As an Accounting Project Coordinator (APC), you will be responsible for the coordination of relevant accounting standard implementation and financial reporting projects. You will engage with business unit operations and Finance to determine effective processes that meet financial reporting requirements and support financial reporting analysis. Primary duties include:

  • Communicate regularly with business units in order to provide financial analysis, professional judgment, process review, policy interpretation, and associated recommendations.
  • Facilitate, relate and interpret Corporate Finance direction to operational business units.
  • Assist with operating and capital budgets including preparation, perform ongoing analysis and review, adjustments, forecasting and advising.
  • Design and deliver project scope and plan in collaboration with financial reporting, business unit finance, operations, and corporate resources.
  • Review and assess operational data for accounting purposes.
  • Work with Financial Reporting to understand and interpret technical accounting standards.
  • Direct and coordinate cross-functional team members.
  • Provide advice, guidance, training and coaching to Senior Financial Accountants, to ensure smooth workflow and process.
  • Identify and escalate project issues and risks developing recommendations for resolution.
Qualifications
  • A degree and a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation with at least 5 years of progressive financial experience which includes leading financial projects.
  • Previous experience with public sector accounting standards, Accounting Standards for Private Enterprise (ASPE), International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), and the United States Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (U.S. GAAP) will also be considered assets.
  • Previous experience with Financial Reporting, and with People Soft Financial Supply Chain Management (FSCM) and Human Capital Management (HCM) is considered an asset.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and in data analytics is required.
  • Success in this position requires strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, innovation and an ability challenge the status quo and think of new ways of doing things.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills accompanied by well-developed presentation and facilitation skills are essential.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills, with a high level of organization and attention to detail.
