Job description
Programming Intern (9 months) - ustwo games - London
London, United Kingdom · Games
ustwo Games is a 40-person studio in London, best known as the creators of Monument Valley and more recently Alba: A Wildlife Adventure and Desta: The Memories Between. We are a multi-discipline group drawing from a diverse range of backgrounds and creative influences; our aim is to craft emotional, surprising experiences, for a broad audience, that change the world's perception of what interactive entertainment can be.
We are well known for making beautiful games, but their apparent simplicity belies the complex systems underlying the magic, whether it's the impossible illusions of Monument Valley or getting the animal-filled open world of Alba to run well on everything from iPhone 7 to PS5. We are looking for a Programming Intern who is passionate and creative, looking to gain professional experience in a supportive environment.
What you'll be doing:
- Spending time with different teams to get a perspective of how different projects work
- With your manager and your mentor, put together a program that will allow you to level up your game programming skills.
- Daily contact with your mentor to help with what you're working on.
- Shadowing various programmers within the programming team
- Making your own small game, with guidance and mentorship, building up familiarity and experience with all the areas needed to make a game in Unity and C#.
- Working and learning with the guidance of the project lead and a programming team of 3-4 other programmers on Monument Valley 3, fixing bugs and collaborating with other disciplines to work on new features.
- Learning how to write code that is iterable, maintainable and performant.
Requirements:
- Strong analytical and communication skills
- Drive to keep learning
- Desire to become a programmer in the games industry
- Experience working in a game engine (Unity, Unreal, Gamemaker, or other) (professional experience not required)
Desirable:
- Collaborated on small projects like game jams
- Secondary skillsets including game design, UX design, art, audio etc.

This is a full time role with a hybrid working model. Our team is working in our Oval studio for a minimum of 2 days per week.
