Role: Programme Manager (Technology)
Job Purpose
As a Programme Manager you will have end to end accountability for the realisation of outcomes enabled by technology change
Key accountabilities
- Lead a Technology Programme or Portfolio of activity aligned to a logical business area
- Align to functional and corporate strategies, establishing traceability between Technology outputs, business or Technology roadmaps and targeted outcomes/benefits
- Develop key relationships with senior business stakeholders to maintain an alignment of objectives and establish a constructive channel for speedy decisions
- Establish the conditions for Project and Senior Project Managers to deliver to their obligations regarding:
o Planning, monitoring and controlling projects
o Closing projects
o Policy compliance
- Develop key relationships with support functions including Cyber Security, Service Management, Procurement and Legal
- Establish value for Royal Mail and secure commercial advantage when working with suppliers
- Team development to increase capability levels
- Effective recruitment to add high calibre resources to the team
- Lead on improvement initiatives with respect to Project Delivery in Royal Mail
- Deputise for the Portfolio/Programme Director as required
Key dimensions
The following are indicative dimensions subject to the relative complexity of individual projects:
- Authority up to £10m p.a
- Responsible for up to 100 matrix reports in addition to supplier resources
- Line management responsibility
Key Skills and Experience
- Experience of leading large Programmes or Portfolios of multiple concurrent projects with a Commercial focus, acting as a Systems Integrator managing multiple 3rd party Technology suppliers
- Strategic mindset with a strong focus on the target state
- High degree of competence in verbal communication to a broad audience up to and including executive Board Members; and excellent, clear and succinct written communication
- Excellent people leadership skills and the ability to convey a clear vision and motivate teams in pursuit of it
- Commercial focus to deliver value-based outcomes
- Customer focus to target improvements and efficiencies that directly benefit Royal Mail customers
- Autonomous and problem solver who escalates strictly by exception when appropriate
