Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Service Improvement

  • Support in developing and implementing service improvements across the Division as required for the Grays Inn Road programme and other strategic programmes
  • Continue to develop greater and wider understanding of the concepts, methodologies, skills and techniques involved in service improvement, quality improvement and organisational transformation and transfer these onto others as required.
  • To maintain close links with the broader quality improvement community both within the sector and nationally, so that UCLH can learn from/benefit from initiatives going on elsewhere and access available sources of funding;
  • Provide senior level liaison/project design
  • Promote patient and public involvement in the evaluation and improvement of services
  • Engage with patients and their families in order to establish their views on services
  • Promote patient and public involvement in the evaluation and improvement of services
  • Review the results of patient satisfaction surveys and utilise findings to improve services

Quality

  • Be responsible for monitoring all aspects or equivalent across the division to ensure the quality of environmental services within the care area and lead that aspect of the modernisation agenda
  • Ensure potential risks for all staff, patients and visitors are identified, action taken as required and relevant incident reporting procedures adhered to
  • Contribute to drawing up action plans to minimise and manage risks. Take overall accountability for the delivery of actions related to nursing practice.
  • Identify and address opportunities for shared learning resulting from incidents and complaints

Leadership

  • To support and motivate staff who are involved in the programme and to create a climate within the services characterised by high standards and openness.
  • To ensure the contributions and perspectives of all staff are heard, valued and to influence management decision making.
  • To deliver presentations to staff groups on progress of the programme, including (where appropriate) delivering training on changes to practice/new ways of working.

Communication

  • Maintain effective communication links with stakeholders (both clinical and non-clinical) across the Division on developments within the programme (and other related projects) and its impact on the delivery of services
  • Utilise proactive and reactive communication strategies as appropriate to ensure that information about the Grays Inn Road programme is appropriately disseminated
  • Prepare and present written and oral progress reports setting out progress in relation to their work and learning and alerting the team and clinical/corporate board teams to issues requiring discussion and decision.
  • Sustain effective working relationships with the clinical/corporate boards’ leadership team

Financial Management

  • Ensure that all work under their leadership is in line with the overall sustainability strategy of the Division and the Trust for both income and expenditure.
  • Identify further cost improvements and revenue generation opportunities, negotiating and implementing those in accordance with the strategic agenda.
  • Ensure that improvements in efficiency also deliver financial benefits and contribute to the trust’s overall improving value scheme agenda.
  • Responsible for appropriate/allocated budgets (as identified by the Divisional Manager); identify anticipated pressures and potential efficiency savings
  • Responsible for the production of sound business cases which present both business acumen, strategic relevance and deliverable benefits for the Division and wider Trust.

Information

  • Be responsible for the production of accurate information with regard to the programme at appropriate Board and Trust forums as required.
  • Ensure that all information required for performance, audit or other reasons is collected and reported in line with expected timeframes and take corrective action where this is consistently not being achieved.
  • Produce notes, minutes, agendas for meetings and a range of correspondence (simple and complex)
  • Identify and interpret information as required and apply it appropriately to support the delivery and development of services

People management

  • To line manage the Queen Square Transformation Manager in their work across the Division outside of the Grays Inn Road programme
  • To be responsible for the day to day activities and coordination of the project team
  • Produce consultation papers, in collaboration with HR business partner, and undertake the consultation process with staff affected by proposed service changes
  • Ensure staff engagement is a priority and support fostering a learning culture

Essential criteria
  • High standard of written and spoken English
  • Educated to Degree level
  • Masters or equivalent (or in exceptional circumstance - able to demonstrate significant level of equivalent experience)

Experience

  • At least 2 years of senior operational experience (band 8+) within the NHS
  • Experience of working closely with stakeholders to inform and implement initiatives
  • Significant knowledge and understanding gained through experience of: -Problem solving techniques -Change management techniques -Quality Improvement techniques -Stakeholder management and communications -Risk management and issue resolution -Experience of service redesign and development
  • A proven record of success in managing operational change while also developing and maintaining high standards of quality
  • Experience in managing budgets
  • Experience of leading and developing quality assurance and improvement
  • Experience of delivering capital projects as part of a multi-disciplinary/-professional project team
