By developing partnerships with non-for-profit organisations, social enterprises and international institutions, the foundation improves the economic and social situation of women and adolescent girls around the world through a multidimensional and holistic approach, addressing issues related to access to health, employment, entrepreneurship, leadership, economic resources, and other critical challenges such as climate adaptation.
The foundation currently supports more than 200 initiatives in 45 countries, across the Americas, Africa, Middle East, Europe, and Asia. As part of its global strategy, the foundation aims to grow its footprint in Africa and Middle East regions with a specific focus on Francophone West and Central Africa, increasing its budget allocation from $3 million to $15 million per year. The foundation is also interested in expanding its network amongst the African philanthropic and corporate sectors.
The role of this position within the organisation
As part of Fondation CHANEL’s International Programmes Team, the Africa & MENA Programme Manager will work collaboratively with the entire foundation teams in London, New York, Paris and Singapore, and maintain a cross-functional relationship with the executive management team, Operations, Finance, and Communications Departments, as well as key stakeholders within CHANEL (including corporate social responsibility and internal staff engagement) where relevant.
This position works in close collaboration with the Managing Director of Fondation CHANEL UK, the Global Head of the foundation, and other regional programme leads.

Missions and Responsibilities
1) Philanthropy: identification, selection and monitoring of initiatives in Africa & MENA
- In partnership with the Managing Director of Fondation CHANEL UK, lead on the development and implementation of the Africa & MENA strategy
- Launch, monitor, and supervise partner prospecting initiatives in line with the foundation’s Africa & MENA strategy and in compliance with internal procedures, including due diligence
- Prepare selection files and set up partnerships
- Manage relationship with partners and monitor and evaluate the partnerships, including management of key documents
- Ensure the administrative and financial follow up of partners, including project evaluations.
- Organize site visits and meetings with partners
- Prepare and co-lead statutory meetings of the UK Fondation
- Participate in the management of the budget allocated to the Africa & MENA portfolio in collaboration with the Managing Director of Fondation CHANEL UK and Head of Finance of the foundation
2) Sector: support external representation, advocacy, and influencing
- Provide expertise and contribute to discussions in areas of expertise
- Alongside other Programme Leads, support and serve as a representative for Fondation CHANEL, providing technical and policy advice on advocacy and communications initiatives, and develop and disseminate key messages
- Develop and maintain constructive working relationships with key stakeholders in the region – externally and internally
- Represent Fondation CHANEL in various gender equality and philanthropic bodies or fora in the region
3) CHANEL ecosystem :
- Coordinate with CHANEL’s Social Commitment Team on employee engagement and awareness raising within the region, including monitoring and implementing pro-bono activities
- Provide support to the company in areas of expertise
- Participate in the development and execution of the Fondation's communication plan
- Work with the Global and Regional programmes teams on various cross-functional initiatives
Qualifications/skills sought
- Post graduate studies in social sciences, humanities, economics, international relations or other relevant subject
- A minimum of six years of experience in philanthropy, international development, gender equality, or social action within the African and/or MENA regions. Experience in preventing and responding to violence against women and girls, sexual and reproductive health rights, economic autonomy, women’s rights legislation, and working in fragile and humanitarian contexts is highly desirable
- Experience working in advocacy, influencing, and negotiating skills
- Ability to network and work independently
- Fluency in English and French. Other languages desirable, in particular Arabic
- Willingness to travel frequently (approximately 30% of working time)
