Job description

This post is full time and permanent, working 35 hours per week. We would also consider applications to work on a part-time basis.

The University of Westminster seeks to appoint a Professor to strengthen research and academic leadership in the School of Media and Communication. This is an exciting opportunity to join the well-known Communication and Media Research Institute (CAMRI) and help to deliver our focus on research themes informed by the UN Sustainable Development Goals. We have a collegiate research culture focused on impact, and were ranked in the top 12 for Research Impact in this subject area in the REF 2021, with 83% of our research overall judged to be either ‘world-leading’ or ‘internationally excellent’. We have a thriving doctoral programme attracting high quality students from a diverse global pool.

Research in the School is located primarily in the Communication and Media Research Institute (CAMRI) and organised around four thematic areas. The appointee will provide research leadership in at least one of CAMRI’s four research themes: Communication, technology and society; Cultural identities and social change; Global media; and Policy and political economy.

The appointee will be a leading figure in the field of Media and Communication, with an international reputation for excellence in research, and outstanding track records in publication and in attracting external funding. They will also demonstrate a commitment to excellence in learning and teaching, including doctoral supervision. The appointee will play a significant academic leadership role across the School, working closely with the Research and Knowledge Exchange (RKE) leads and the Head of School, as well as the College RKE Director, to develop excellence in research and postgraduate teaching.

We pride ourselves on our diverse team and on the collegiate working culture within the School of Media and Communication.

Suitable applicants will be considered for a Professorial title. If this is the case, you will be required to meet the University of Westminster’s criteria for the award of a Professorial title on appointment (this can be accessed below). Consequently, if you wish to apply for a Professorial title with your application, we will require you to provide details of three referees.
