About the vacancy: The UWE Centre for Transport & Society (CTS), now in its 20th year, wishes to appoint a post as Professor in Transport and Mobility Studies, as part of the University's continued success in delivering research with impact. The successful candidate's application will align with the ethos and broad development trajectory of CTS but there is flexibility in how candidates interpret the scope. The final post title will be refined along with the appointee. We particularly welcome applicants with a passion for creating inclusive teams, and empowering and mentoring other researchers. The successful applicant will co-lead research within the Centre and contribute to its teaching and knowledge exchange activities. Suitable applicants for this post will be a leading authority in the field of transport and mobility studies. Your qualifications could be drawn from a range of disciplinary origins, such as, but not limited to, transport, geography, economics, business studies, sociology, psychology, or civil engineering. However, in line with the focus and ethos of CTS, your research experience will be highly relevant for research on social, economic, environmental, behavioural, or governance aspects of passenger and/or freight mobility. You will certainly have an international track record demonstrating subject expertise, excellence and achievement, including the development and delivery of a range of research methodologies. Lastly, you will be able to demonstrate ongoing achievement of successful bidding for external research funding; managing complex research projects and the research teams delivering them; mentoring and empowering other researchers; producing high quality contributions to knowledge in terms of your published work; and leading research development initiatives. As a Professor in Transport and Mobility Studies you will be joining a growing and ambitious Centre that is looking to retain its strengths across the field of 'Transport and Society' whilst developing its capacity and capability in respect of the pressing challenges of delivering more sustainable mobility. Through the process of leading a research theme within the Centre, the successful applicant will be expected to make a significant contribution towards the maintenance and enhancement of the University's reputation for research, including the next research quality evaluation exercise, the Research Excellence Framework, expected to be held in 2028. All UWE Bristol academics are expected to develop their careers in a combination of learning and teaching, research, scholarly and/or practice activity, knowledge exchange and external engagement alongside academic leadership and citizenship demonstrating UWE Bristol Values in all activities. About the Centre: The Centre for Transport & Society is a centre of excellence in academic research on mobility, travel behaviour, transport policy analysis and technological change in the transport sector. CTS's overarching aim is to further understanding and influence on the interactions between mobility, lifestyles and society in the context of social, political and technological change. Our work is relevant to all modes of transport including walking, and covers both personal mobility and freight transport. CTS is a thriving research team engaged in cutting-edge research for a wide portfolio of funders (research councils, public sector and charities).
