General Summary
We are pleased to announce an exciting opportunity for candidates interested in joining the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) at Western Michigan University (WMU). Applications are invited to apply for this tenure-track faculty position at an academic rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor. Senior candidates with exceptional records in securing external funding, nationally recognized scholarship and teaching may be considered for the John Hallquist Endowed Professorship with tenure.
The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering offers bachelors and masters degree programs in mechanical engineering and aerospace engineering, and a doctoral program in mechanical engineering. The department currently enrolls a diverse population of about 650 students and has a rapidly growing aerospace program. Both undergraduate programs are accredited by EAC/ABET. The College of Engineering and Applied Sciences (CEAS) has seven academic departments, with programs in engineering, engineering technology, and applied sciences. The college is housed in a 343,000 square foot facility (Floyd Hall) located on a 270-acre engineering campus. This modern campus also includes a Business and Technology and Research Park.
Located in beautiful southwest Michigan in the vibrant city of Kalamazoo, WMU is a comprehensive and nationally recognized student-centered institution classified by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching as a doctoral university conducting research at a high level. The Kalamazoo area has a population of approximately 265,000, a low cost of living, and is located halfway between Chicago and Detroit. Major Duties
- Develop an innovative, externally funded, independent research program.
- Develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the department.
- Support and value our culture of diversity, equity and inclusion.
Minimum Qualifications
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in research and teaching, and possess expertise in a space-related field.
- Participate and maintain departmental research objectives.
- Earned Doctorate degree or equivalent in aerospace engineering or a related field is required for employment from an accredited institution.
