Part-time Faculty Positions


DePaul University invites expressions of interest for a pool of qualified Part Time Faculty to teach courses in a variety of disciplines across all 10 colleges and schools. Individuals may enter expressions of interest by submitting their credentials to any posting for which they are qualified to teach. Postings are organized by college/school and department. Screening of individuals in the pool is ongoing, depending on curricular need and funding. Individuals will be contacted by the department if they reach the finalist stage for teaching a particular course or set of courses. The pool will remain in place until the closing date specified in the posting details; those interested in remaining in the pool beyond that time must resubmit. All individuals in the pool will be notified by email when the posting is closed.

Responsibilities:

The School of Design within the Jarvis College of Computing and Digital Media at DePaul University invites applicants for two tenure track positions one open rank (Assistant, Associate, or Professor), and one at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin in September 2023. Job responsibilities include teaching, conducting research or creative activity, and providing service to the School of Design and the broader institution. Successful candidates will be appointed as a faculty member in the School of Design and will have teaching responsibilities in the area of Game Design. Faculty will have opportunities to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels, in our Game Design programs that are nationally ranked in the Top 50 and Top 25 lists respectively.

Who We Are

Located in the heart of Chicago, the School of Design prides itself on nurturing a diverse body of students to become visionary designers who will lead the field. The Game Design program works alongside sister programs in the Jarvis College of Computing and Digital Media, and we are interested in applicants who can foster collaborations with colleagues in computing, animation, audio, graphic design, cinema, theater, and user experience design. Our faculty builds bridges within and outside DePaul and engages in community outreach that correspond to DePaul's Vincentian Mission. Faculty in the School of Design are given many forms of support to develop their careers. Faculty have access to cutting-edge equipment and lab spaces, including several VR and AR production and play spaces, two well-equipped makerspaces, advanced playtesting labs, a print lab, as well as recording, film, stop-motion animation, and motion-capture studios. The recently opened Jarvis Student Center for Innovation and Collaboration provides work and presentation spaces, game development workstations, and opportunities to build connections within and outside the university. The position features well-paid compensation and support for exhibiting and presenting work at festivals, galleries, museums, and conferences. Colleagues in the School of Design are dedicated to mutual success and growth, and we are interested in someone who will add new dimensions to our program.

Required Qualifications:

Candidates are expected to teach game production including design and development courses at the undergraduate and graduate level in which students collaborate in cross-disciplinary teams to iteratively create innovative and entertaining digital games. Candidates must have a terminal degree, such as an MFA or equivalent, in game design, interactive arts, entertainment, computer science or a related field. Exceptions are made for candidates who have already attained recognition for scholarly or other relevant professional achievements and who give promise of continued academic development. Candidates with a well-developed creative research agenda that will inform and advance emerging trends in the field of games will be given preference.

We are especially interested in candidates whose work and interests align with DePaul’s Vincentian mission which calls on the university to address the great questions of our day, promoting peaceful, just, and equitable solutions to social and environmental challenges. Specifically, the School of Design is working to develop curricula that address diversity and anti-racism and respond to contemporary industry trends, societal issues, and dynamic, intersecting design disciplines.
