Founded in 1873, GLW Feeds are one of the largest independent, family-owned livestock and speciality feed manufacturers in the UK, concentrating in roll, nut, pellet, and meal-form compound feeds. Significant investment since has resulted in a hi-tech computer-controlled production capacity of approaching 300,000 tonne capacity across two sites. Both of our sites are very close to the M1.
Role Overview
Operate as part of the production team, using DSL Auto Pilot Feed Systems, operate the equipment in the mill to manufacture product to the required quality and output.
Training will be provided to the successful candidates.
The role requires shift working covering days, nights, weekends and bank holidays.
Applicants need to physically fit as there is an amount of manual handling involved.
Salary banding is £22,500 to £25,000, with £25,000 being paid when fully trained.
Key Responsibilities
1. Blending
Using DSL Auto Pilot Feed System control grinders, weigher, hand tip, batch mixer and pre-grind sieves.
Control the movement of materials from the Raw Material storage bins to the appropriate pre-cubing bin, finished product bin or IFHS bin as discreet runs, ensuring adequate tracking and identification of product at all times.
Manufacture product in accordance with the productions programme ensuring product is available for vehicle loading and time sensitive loads are made on time.
Ensure all equipment is functioning correctly to avoid any issues of cross contamination and foreign bodies.
Check, pre-grind sieves screens as required to achieve the correct grist of meal.
Take and label sample bags accordingly.
Carry out visual tests on samples for grist, colour, foreign bodies, hot product, smell and general appearance.
Prepare and hand tip requirements as necessary and record all details.·
2. Pressing
Using DSL Auto Pilot Feed System operate pelleting press (including steam and liquid additions) and associated control systems.
Control the movement of product from the pre-cubing bins to the appropriate to finished product bin as discreet runs, ensuring adequate tracking and identification of product at all times.
Operate the crumbler to give the required grist size.
Ensure correct screens fitted to sieves and are functioning correctly.
Take representative samples of manufactured product, label, test and record as appropriate for women, kahl hardness, greasiness, colour, dustiness, length, foreign bodies and hot product.
3. General Operations
Report any faults or defects using Piranha and communicate with maintenance.
Control product quality while maintaining output and minimising downtime.
Maintain detailed records of production as required by relevant systems.
Programme products in accordance with cross contamination schedule.
In the event of sub-standard product report to the shift leader and take remedial action.
Responsibility for producing the right quality of product first time, every time.
Clean all equipment regularly in accordance with the mill cleaning schedule.
