Job description
We’re on the lookout for some more, hard-working team players to join our busy production team here in our Milton Keynes factory!
The business
International Dance Shoes is one of the world’s leading brands of Ballroom and Latin American dance footwear. The company was founded in 1981 and over the years we’ve become firmly established across the world, with shoes worn by top professional competitive dancers and social dancers of all ages, and we’re also suppliers to BBC’s famous ‘Strictly Come Dancing’!
In 2020 we won a Queen’s Award for Enterprise in the International Trade category for outstanding achievements in export growth. Some of our biggest markets are the USA, Germany, Italy, China, Japan, Ukraine, Australia and Poland. We sell both direct to dancers online, and via a network of distributors and independent stores.
What makes us different from most of our competitors is that we make our shoes here in the UK, with our factory/HQ in Milton Keynes, positioned just south of the UK’s traditional shoemaking hub of Northampton and just north of London. A team of 25 people are responsible for carefully hand-crafting footwear of exceptional quality using innovative components and materials. Our factory floor is a hive of activity, as is the floor above where our offices are. We’re a family business with a mix of first and second generation, with an incessant drive and enthusiasm to maintain our values of innovation, style, and comfort in our shoes, as well as our family business feel.
The role
The Production Operative will work within our hard-working production team, which has several departments all contributing to the same goal of efficiently producing beautiful looking, high-quality dance shoes.
We’re looking for someone to work on our production tracks preparing soles units to be attached to shoes as well as some other tasks within preparation and shoe construction. This will involve putting together heels and suede soles neatly and precisely, so good hands and attention to detail is essential.
As things are very busy, you could be involved in various areas so the ability to be able to pick up new skills and being willing to learn and work with new people is crucial. Quality is paramount within the business so whereas there is a need for efficiency in our production team – an eye for detail is also vital.
Applicants with a manufacturing background are desirable (more so if you have experience with footwear) but if you don’t have such experience, then you’ll just need a passion to learn new skills and develop a new career in an established international business which is working hard to grow and be the very best we can be!
