Job description
Production Manager
£60k 4 on 4 off
Wrexham
In any shop floor environment, a good production manager is worth their weight in gold. The transferrable skills for this role are all about people development, being close to the team, understanding the key numbers and data and knowing how to get into the basics.
This role needs someone who understands food manufacturing and enjoys the pace and constantly changing dynamics that comes with the environment. Being close to the action daily, knowing the team and building and developing those teams around your teams’ individual strengths. Having clear and open communication so everyone understands what the overall long term and daily goals are and what is required to get there is critical.
This is the ideal role for someone who enjoys fast paced manufacturing, who can mix being proactive with the need to react and make the right decisions, who is comfortable with numerical data to make those decisions and where the pinch points are in the process. There’s a lot to do here but for the right candidate this is an ideal role to make an impression and work with this dynamic Senior Leadership Team.
Working closely with the Head of Operations, it’s an opportunity to head up the production team and be a change agent. You need ambition and the resilience to deliver the results in those first few months working with and through the production teams. With a new customer to boost growth and a number of exciting projects underway working on a site led by a progressive and inspirational GM, this Production Manager allows for personal development in a positive environment.
The Role
- Managing a production team on shifts of a 4 on 4 off basis.
- Working closely with the production teams with a heavy focus on people development.
- Driving process improvement, drawing on previous experience and successes.
- Motivating and gaining the trust and buy-in from the production teams through open communication and training.
- Constantly identify opportunities and continually improve the production business unit.
- Knowing the detail and being hands-on in the factory.
- Reporting into a site lead with a refreshing open and upbeat style. There is plenty to be done and the positive support of an experienced site lead will make all the difference.
Ideally you need a background in food production for retail to understand the pace and detail involved in audits, food safety, GMP etc.
Your recent roles will have been delivering improvement through your understanding of the daily activity in the factory and the issues involved. Being fully integrated in the team and the issues faced on the shop floor enables that flow of information and what the real problems are.
Encouraging accountability and responsibility is always required in production management but the first plan is to ensure the basics are in place, that everyone believes that more can be achieved and is part of that improvement process.
