ABOUT THE JOB
To design, develop, administer, programme, support and maintain enterprise database systems and services, in accordance with agreed standards and to assist in providing a strategic co-ordination of these technologies within the general ICT environment across Police Scotland and the SPA.
ABOUT YOU
You should have excellent interpersonal, communication, analytical and problem solving skills. Strong prioritisation and organisational skills, customer focused. Have the ability to work on own initiative with limited supervision. Ability to work under pressure as part of a team and have proven skills related to Team-working.
You will be educated to a degree level in related computer science or software engineering discipline. It would be desirable to have qualification in an enterprise database technology (Oracle or SQL Server.
You will have knowledge and experience of:
o Relational database system management principles and practices.
o Database design (logical and physical) and implementation.
o The development and administration of relational database management systems, including a good working knowledge of SQL.
o Database backup and recovery technology and associated processes.
o Oracle 10g or above.
o Database design (logical and physical) and implementation.
- Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence concepts and best practices.
- Experience administering application servers.
- Knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server.
You should have experience writing database documentation, including data standards, procedures and definitions for the data dictionary (metadata).
Knowledge of data protection legislation, information security protocols and data weeding practices.
- A sound understanding of how existing and developing government legislation affects the storage, use and transfer of data in ICT systems.
- Experience of architecting, designing, developing, and testing ETL solutions.
- Working with customers to elicit and define requirement specifications.
- Proven experience in a technical role related to enterprise database architecture, design, management and the delivery of enterprise data services.
Personal Qualities (Desirable):
- Experienced in working with disparate data systems which are spread across a multi-site physical and operational environment.
Special Aptitudes (Essential):
- Strong analytical skills.
- Capable of communicating effectively with both a Technical and non-Technical audiences.
- Ability to use own initiative and deal with a varied programme of work.
This full time post is permanent and will require Standard Recruitment Vetting. You will work 35 hours a week, Monday to Friday, 09:00 – 17:00.
